Does Amazon know their own returns policy?
Hi I’m wondering if anyone can help me? I had a customer purchase an item on the 2nd April and I’ve had a msg today from Amazon requesting that I supply return details to the customer as she is saying it is not working.
I thought Amazon’s return policy was usually 28 days but has been extended to 90 for Xmas and pandemic, not 8 months.
Does anyone know where I stand if I don’t authorise the return as it’s outside the returns parameter by 5 months.

The return policy is for standard cancellation so depending out what you sold it will ha e a warrenty so depending on what it is it could be anything from 12 to 60 months for a new item obviously certain things are excluded and it does not necessarily need to be a return it could be a replacement.

I had an FBA ‘change of mind’ return after 170 days recently. They said their CS agent had ‘made an exception’ to grant the return, but had not left any notes explaining why. No way for Seller Support to speak directly to CS either, so no way to even ask the agent about it.

You can quote this:

- It shows:

However, under The Sale of Goods Act 2015, the SELLER MUST take liability - this may assist if you search: Which? and then Consumer Rights.

AMAZON expect details under Condition notes on used items, otherwise they assume like their own used items that a 12 month warranty applies (so state there if say a 6 month repair warranty).
Defend an A-Z Claim otherwise for anything after 6 months, Buyers if they win, will be funded by Amazon (just Appeal if not).

Sometimes, I have the refund message, showing order was placed in year 2017 or 2018, but return for refund due to Does not work. this is the good point of on-line shopping for those kind of customers.

This place is like a renters market. You buy it, use it, and then few months/years down the line you ask for a refund and Amazon will refund you.

Unfortunately, Amazon’s actual return policy is unlimited. We had a return on a food product from 13 months ago where FBA accepted it, returned to inventory and then sent it back out. The customer who then received a 13 month+ old item was appalled- quite rightly so too. The fault of FBA but the seller gets punished.
As a customer, you can return literally anything to FBA if you select ‘arrived damaged’ as a return reason. 2 weeks, 6 months, 2 years- it doesn’t matter. Amazon will automatically accept FBA returns as the 3P seller is paying for it.
If anyone has found a way to combat this blatant customer fraud (which Amazon seemingly do not care about) then please let me know as this damages all of us who use FBA and is unfortunately becoming more widespread.

The EU directive 1999/44/EC says the following:
‘A two-year guarantee applies for the sale of all consumer goods everywhere in the EU. In some countries, this may be more, and some manufacturers also choose to offer a longer warranty period.’
That is what Amazon is following and many customers use that loophole to return their phones and TVs after using them for 2 years. Needless to say that you just fire up the chat with Customer services and simply tell them that your device is now broken and you urgently require a refund. On Amazon it is easy-peasy unfortunately
