what is actually approved?
In my list of selling applications, I can see straight away by the Application Name what it is that I'm approved for however I have a lot of listings where it simply says "branded". How am I supposed to know what it is that's approved in these? Hope someone can help

Mine doesn't look like that - it shows the actual brand name under "application name".

You appear to be taking a scattergun approach rather than being specific and are ultimately just tying yourself up in your own knots.
E.G. If you want to and have approval from the brand to sell Toblerone, you're applying to sell any ASIN that has an image of a Toblerone rather than only those under the brand Toblerone. Perhaps you've been approved on a branded ASIN showing an image of a Toblerone that is actually branded as 'Simon's sweets'. All will be fine until a customer complains yours or any other seller on the listing aren't selling real Toblerone products and Amazon asks you for your invoice for 'Simon's sweets' at which point your account will be deactivated, your funds withheld and any FBA inventory destroyed at your cost as you cannot produce an invoice for 'Simon's sweets'.
Buy from genuine wholesalers (not retailers or Amazon themselves) and sell under properly branded listings and your Amazon journey will be competitive but smooth. Sell under dodgy listings and/or buy from retail/dodgy sources and you'll be back on the forums crying that Amazon is withholding your funds, unfairly refunding your customers and destroying your inventory.
That all begins with which listings you apply for and get approved to sell. Check the listing carefully that it matches the brand you intend to, and have brand approval, to sell on Amazon.
