Applying For VAT Reclaim From Amazon
Morning All
OK so having taken over the day to day responsibility of our Amazon UK account since October there was a lot that was not set up properly and now I am rectifying.
-
VAT Number Added, Approved and will be active from 31/12 didn’t want to do it mid month.
-
The ‘Product Tax Code’ for the items has been updated and is ZERO Rated (HRMC Checked / On Website All Done)
I would now like to claim back the VAT / Tax on the all the items for 2021 since Jan 21 that have been charged with VAT and was wondering what is the best way / or subject title I should be using with seller support. So this will be the VAT I assume on the Fees and not on the product correct? but am still trying to work it out
Thanks for any help

if you go to help - get more support, you can ‘request a VAT refund on Amazon Fees’
Obviously you will need to prove you were VAT registered for the dates you are requesting the refund for - so you’ll need a letter from HMRC with your VAT registration date on

If you are VAT registered then it is up to you to reclaim VAT on the invoices supplied by Amazon. Going forward Amazon will not charge VAT on service fees provided on an EC Reverse Charge basis (advertising will still have VAT charged as it is a UK service).
For a first registration I believe the maximum you will be able to recover is 6 months of service VAT charges - your accountant will be able to assist you with the details. Don’t forget to recover the VAT on any stock you have purchased and still are in possession of - you cannot reclaim VAT on stock already sold . Again - check everything with your accountant.

Thanks Peter, yes we have been doing all the Input and output VAT sales/expenses excluding Amazon is all well and good. My specific issue is now whom to address for the VAT paid on the fees / products since Jan 21, address to Amazon SS? or HRMC, I don’t even see a VAT No on the Invoices from Amazon not the greatest format to try and decipher!
Seller_7VbclcPFFRTnc
So you’ve already claimed them back on your quarterly returns ?
Seller_YQiUQTlGbZGIh
Nothing of the Amazon account has been included in the VAT so nothing has been reclaimed
sorry should have put everything is being done with the exclusion/exception of Amazon sales is not been accounted for due to the mess the previous person managing the account put it in

The sales have been added (nothing to pay as its zero rated items) but the vat on fees etc (input vat / expense vat) has nto been accounted for

There is no VAT to be ‘recovered’ on customer sales. If you weren’t VAT registered then no VAT has been charged to the customer. It is up to you as a seller to determine VAT charges to your end customer based on your own VAT status.
A non-VAT registered business does not charge VAT on sales - so the price an item sells for is the price, with no VAT included.
A VAT registered business charges VAT on sales at the rate appropriate for the product class. Typically, 0%, 5% or most commonly 20%. This VAT must then be passed back to HMRC at the rate applicable for their VAT registration.
None of this is affected or influenced by Amazon for UK sellers.
Recovery of VAT on fees paid to Amazon will be through your VAT return. The EU services VAT invoices in your Tax Document library will have Amazon’s VAT number on to allow reclaiming 6 months of services related VAT.

Then you print out your invoices from the Tax document library, take them to your accountant/bookkeeper and they will give you a definitive answer on how far back you can claim/adjust your VAT returns.

Hi,
I’m new to the whole selling on Amazon thing, a few questions, some may be foolish and/or in the wrong place, so apologies in advance.
- I still have a job and want to explore other avenues of income, thus selling on Amazon. Do I need to do anything further with my tax code etc?
- I’m not selling much yet (newly started) do I need to register for VAT refunds and if so is this a difficult process?
- Are there any other things i should be aware of or look out for?
Other info:
I don’t have the professional plan yet as I don’t sell enough
Thanks for any help.
