Ending unjustified Geoblocking
I’ve just seen this news… Does this mean that if I only sell on amazon.co.uk that I have to ship to any European country? If the answer is yes, are we permitted to charge postage accordingly. Then there’s the problem of if a customer wishes to return and item. Do I have to have an address in the country shipped to or can my UK return address suffice?
Really need this before Christmas!

Just seen this myself. Surely you cannot be forced to sell outside the UK If you don’t want to???

No one tells me which countries I have to ship to. Another nail in the Amazon coffin as far as I am concerned

My understanding of this is that it is more to do with the ‘availability’ that Amazon shows overseas customers and that EU customers are all on equal par and should be treated as such.
I think that MarketPlace sellers will be fine to carry on as normal but FBA may need to register for FBA Export in the future, as FBA is primarily handled by Amazon.
I might be completely wrong but that’s what i’m thinking at the moment.

Example: A Belgian customer wants to buy a camera and finds the best deal on a German
website, which however only offers delivery/pick-up points in Germany or collection at the
trader’s premises. The customer is entitled to order the goods and collect them at the trader’s
premises or have them delivered to another address/pick-up points in Germany, just like any
German consumer.
taken from the directives factsheet.

From the fact sheet:
Online sellers do not need to offer delivery in the customer’s Member State. However the seller must offer the same
delivery conditions as the local customers in the Member State to which they offer delivery, including the same
picking-up options. The picking-up of goods from the seller can be done by the consumers themselves or by a delivery
company of their choice.

Maybe I am not getting it but it does not look like a forceful action. It says “You must provide the same options IF YOU OFFER DELIVERY SERVCIES” Big if so if you don’t offer then no worries? Also - “The new rules do not require such traders to offer delivery of the goods to consumer who live in a different country”

Its the EU NOT AMAZON. They have been talking about it for about 4-5 years now it all come down to on big happy family the EU is, and like other laws that dont want some people disadvantaged as they put it. As we are leaving the EU at some point this wont apply to us, but does know. As I understand it, it applies to business sellers only, there was talk about 3 years ago on a turnover level under which you were excempt but think that seems to have been dropped now.
