Click and drop royal mail
Been using Click and Drop from a few years and have always done it the same way
We have about 500 lines and some people buy multiple quantities of certain lines
I know for example that product A is 90g and product B is 30g and product C is 140g
therefore if I sell 5 x product A, 1 x product B and 1 x Product C - using the code of CRL I can average weight them all at 90g so that they are in the under 100g price band
To do this I click on the new orders, select all the items that are going into this band and then ‘apply postage’ set it to large letter at 100g and process that way - all items in that band now are weighted at 100g whether they are 120g or 20g so long as the total weight of all items once divided by the number of item is less than 100g
This morning I am printing my labels and they have now added the new details to include the weight and format
As they are all average weighted, if Revenue were to check they would be fine as collectively everything in that batch will average weigh under 100g each however, there are now going to be packages that will have 100g on the label but actually weigh 130g
Is this going to cause problems once they are passed the depot and being sorted individually ?
thanks

I had this exact same thought when I first noticed that the labels now stated the weight (approx. 2 weeks or so ago). This coincided with an advice that they were altering the way they ‘fine’ you for ‘misdeclaring’ parcel weights and sizes…so obviously I expected the worst.
I raised my concerns with business support but got back a cut and paste response telling me how to average my parcels. I replied and probed a little deeper by questioning why the labels state the ‘average’ weight rather than the ‘true’ weight as they look ‘under-declared’ and got back another cut and paste response telling me I could average the weight of the parcels.
I have now given up asking and will tackle the issue should I start being fined!

Why wouldn’t you just set the accurate rate?
i.e. if its 20g say its 20g
The system saves the weight and if ever the item is altered you can overwrite it.
The average will still work out the same.

I had something similar in that mine were going through with the weight as 0.001kg… and the item was 0.060kg… i haven’t had any returned back to me or customers complain, so assume as long as the amount of postage paid covers the weight of the parcel you’ll be ok. But definitely worth making sure it’s as accurate as possible… if not being slightly over just in case.

Surely at the point when the weights on the mail are checked then the average thing doesn’t work? I’ve never been told to average so obviously pay more in postage than those who do but if, as in the last example, your large letter weighing 180g only has postage on for 99g then surely it should get flagged as if I did that the label would look exactly the same but I’d have underpaid my postage?
