I acknowledge that when my inventory is stored in the UK, I am required to upload a UK VAT number in Seller Central. For more information, go to Europe tax and regulatory considerations.

I have a company in England As a company owner, I do not have a residence in the UK, I live outside the UK When creating a shipping plan on Amazon, it asked for a VAT number Why does it ask for VAT number I have researched before I received the message shown in the title however, when trying to upload inventory. I thought I didn’t need to be VAT registered until I got to 85k sales, as of today, I have none. Why are Amazon asking me to confirm VAT registration?

Can you help me please

look up NETP. It all depends on if you would be considered incorporated in the UK. The below is from the gov website

Any person who makes taxable supplies in the UK may have a liability to be registered in the UK even if they have no physical presence here.

We refer to such persons as non-established taxable persons (NETPs).An NETP is any person who is not normally resident in the UK, does not have a UK establishment and, in the case of a company, is not incorporated here.

A UK establishment exists if:

  • the place where essential management decisions are made and the business’s central administration is carried out is in the UK
  • the business has a permanent physical presence with the human and technical resources to make or receive taxable supplies in the UK.

We would normally consider a company which is incorporated in the UK to have an establishment here as long as it is able to receive business supplies at its registered office.

The £85,000 threshold does NOT apply to non-UK residents. If you are going to store your goods in UK for FBA then, as you do not live in UK, it is a legal requirement to be VAT registered.
