Is it normal? No, not really.

But it's also not unusual. Especially if your inventory was recently shipped to Amazon.

Hi @Seller_RjCG1P5z8n7mg,

Dominic from Amazon here, there are a number of reasons why an order may be pending, and orders can stay in pending status for 21 days.

On the Manage orders page, an order with a status of Pending might indicate an issue with the buyer's payment method or a convenience store payment method. In some cases, our payment and order detail verification processes can potentially extend order processing times for as long as 21 days.

This help page, Pending Orders, has additional info on the topic!

Best,

Dominic

for some reason Amazon is the only marketplace that allows pending orders. There must be something that makes them want to keep them. I can’t imagine why tying up inventory for days or weeks is a good thing but who knows. Maybe it has some sort of magical touch to it that makes people buy more if they can use stolen credit cards or something?

Since we are leaving Amazon this year we will be relisting all pending orders and cancelling any that go through. It is pretty abusive for sellers to have to not sell an item simply because a buyer can’t get their payment to go through on the first or 40th day…
