Maximum time allowed by Amazon before despatch?
I have ordered a book from an obscure Amazon seller. How many days are they allowed before marking it as despatched before Amazon start leaning on them in some way? The description was contradictory and they didn't respond to enquiries, but since there was a chance that it might be a relatively scarce item that a customer of mine has requested, I decided to order anyway. 3 days has gone by without the item being marked as despatched. I'd rather not intervene as I would like to get the book if it happens to be the one my customer is looking for, so I was just wondering at what point Amazon would intervene automatically. Oddly the order (made on 5 August) says "Arriving 9 August - 23 August" which seems an awfully wide delivery timescale.

The default at system level can only go as high as 2 working days.
However at ASIN level you can make this higher, up to I believe 30 days.
That delivery time scale isn't out of the ordinary for some listings.

You may have ordered from a bookjacker; 'booksellers' that have nothing in stock, just list other sellers' books at jacked up prices then scrabble to source a copy to fulfil your order.
Would you be willing to share the seller's name?

Booksellers have to confirm shipment withing 2 working days of order (the default), otherwise it gets a 'Late Despatch Rate' mark down on the metric. Am not sure that Amazon would actually intervene, unless the seller has a lot of late despatches, seriously impacting their LDR metric.
As above post, that delivery time scale is pretty average for some items.

Delivery time might be so wide as it's being posted from the States - I've known US sellers to use the cheapest delivery methods available which can take up to a fortnight

After 11½ days, Amazon tell me my order has been cancelled, but do not say whether it was they, Amazon, or the seller, that did the cancelling; nor do they say why the order was cancelled. They also say "Any payment that has been made on this order will be refunded within 5-7 business days." So basically they will have had my money for potentially well over two weeks.
