A ridiculous Return Shipping Adjustment for $234.30. Safe-T denied to reimburse us and no reason was given

A mysterious return shipping adjustment for $234.30 appeared for an 8 lbs sound bar a customer returned. The original return request was approved automatically and the buyer was sent a prepaid UPS shipping label for $7. But a few days later, this mysterious return shipping adjustment $234.30 appeared for this less than $100 sound bar. I opened a Safe-T claim, and the $7 was refunded to us, but not the $234.30 adjustment. After denying reimbursement of us the amount 4 or 5 times, they closed the case by saying that we had already been reimbursed the $7. And they refuse to share any information about the $234.30. It appears that Amazon just robbed us of that amount. That is totally unacceptable.

The order number is 111-8661221-8473008.

Btw, the actual size of the package is 36x5x6. Even UPS mistakenly put the dimension as 36x36x36, I doubt the shipping charge will be that much. Who is responsible for correcting this charging mistake?

We've faced similar issues with Evri applying unexpected additional charges. In our case, they've charged us roughly £184,000 for "adjustment" fees, but these charges were never disclosed or itemised in our regular monthly invoices from last year. Like you, we only received a massive backdated (last year 2023) charge recently , with no prior notification that these "adjustments" would be applied.

We’re considering escalating this to the CMA and FCA due to what we believe to be unfair billing practices and will challenge this legally - This is a scam we believe these adjustment were not part of rate card we received.

Please be aware of this issue moving forward.

£184,000 for "adjustment" is a massive amount. Our largest loss was from FBA inventory adjustment. Some were probably stolen that they can't recover. They will use this adjustment to reduce the inventory and say these inventory adjustments were never received to avoid reimburse us.

Hello @Seller_stNIgClUzNj4G

Thank you for posting your inquiry to the Forums.

For context, when you purchase shipping services, the carrier charges are based on the information you provide for the package. Similarly, for returns, we provide customers with prepaid return shipping labels on your behalf through Amazon Buy Shipping and the carrier charges based on the information provided in the label. Carriers may charge or credit you after the package is shipped in the form of Carrier adjustments. These charges are caused by incorrect label information. Additional information on carrier shipping adjustment charges can be found in the help page below:

For additional assistance on this specific order, please feel free to open a case with our Support team. If you already have a case opened, you can provide the case ID number to this thread and I can review the correspondence already provided.

Regards,

The following is my response to seller support team:

Hi, Thank you for your quick investigation and the prompt answer. Your results reveals UPS has mistakenly adjusted the size of the package. It could be an honest mistake or someone has manipulated it for unknown reasons to us. I have attaching the photos of the package and with a measuring tape to show the exact LxWxH by inches. It is 36x5x6 inch^3. Could you please contact UPS and correct this outrageous shipping adjustment?

The following is reply from seller support team:

Hello from Amazon Selling Partner Support,

This is a follow up regarding Order ID: 111-8661221-8473008 that adjustment was not refunded.

Upon checking we see that the Charges : BaseRateCharge= 44.40, PeakCharge= 84.75, OversizeCharge= 80.00, FuelCharge= 32.78

BaseRateCharge= 44.40

In this case the weight you entered for this order was [8.00 LB] and the carrier audited weight for this item is [130 LB]. You were charged for the difference in package dimensions. UPS will use the greater of actual weight or dimensional weight when charging for a shipping label. Dimensional weight is calculated by (LxHxW)/139 for returns and (LxHxW)/166 for outbound shipment. The billing charges in question are considered valid according to the carrier's surcharge policies, and Amazon Transportation does not reimburse Sellers for chargebacks due to carrier's dimensional weight, package size, package handling, or other policies.

For more information visit below Shipping costs for seller-fulfilled returns help page:

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G202103400?

OversizeCharge= 80.00

In this case the dimensions you entered for this order were [37 X 7 X 5 IN] and the carrier audited dimensions for this item were [43.0 X 14.0 X 30.0 IN]. Because these do not match, you were charged for the difference in package dimensions. UPS will use the greater of actual weight or dimensional weight when charging for a shipping label. Dimensional weight is calculated by (LxHxW)/139 for returns, and (LxHxW)/166 for outbound shipment. Further investigation indicates you were charged for large package surcharge. According to UPS, for domestic shipments, a package is considered a “Large Package” when its combined length (longest side of the package) and girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] exceed 130 inches, or its length exceeds 96 inches. Please note, an Additional Handling charge will not be assessed when a Large Package Surcharge is applied. The following link https:// ups website link removed /assets/resources/webcontent/en_US/retail_rates.pdf provides documentation, in the form of the carrier’s Daily Rate and Service Guide, elaborating on their surcharge policies.

FuelCharge= 32.78

A fuel surcharge is applied when the cost of fuel required for delivery exceeds the contract-defined amount between the ship-from and ship-to location. Please note these fees are influenced by the fluctuating oil price depending on the day it got shipped. The carrier can bill this charge at their discretion as described in the UPS Fuel Surcharge. You may refer below page link for more info.

https:// ups website link removed /us/en/support/shipping-support/shipping-costs-rates/fuel-surcharges.page

PeakCharge= 84.75

UPS_Peak Demand Charges: A Peak Demand Charge will apply to packages shipped during the specified Peak/Demand Periods for the origins, destinations, and service levels and in the amounts set forth below. Peak/Demand Surcharges apply in addition to all other applicable Charges. Peak/Demand Surcharges are subject to change and Peak/Demand Periods may be extended or otherwise changed. Shippers should continue to check ups.com/peaksurcharge for updates prior to tendering shipments.
