If you are already VAT registered, then the Ltd company will also need VAT registration.

But I would strongly suggest that you speak to an accountant about it.

Definitely speak with an accountant

As Neil said , you will still need to be vat registered as a ltd but you need to discuss with an accountant the differences between transferring the number or registering a new one

Is the DE vat number on amazon your ST or your Ltd vat number
And if ltd, how did amazon accept it ?

Why do you need to be a ltd company? If it’s working ok as a sole trader it is less complicated.

What’s up with all these LTD and tax liabilities threads recently…

One thing is clear though, all these posters are not really looking for any advices. They already have an idea what they want to do, and just seeking reassurance, and rejecting everything else that deviates from their original plans, regardless of how sound those advices are.

OP, sorry that you are not getting the reassurance here on the forum. Hope you have better luck with HMRC and Amazon.

cheers

Done it myself, if you’re a sole trader and then change to a limited company and this will be your sole business then you register the limited company and then register it for VAT - it’s a separate entity. You then inform the VAT that you are ceasing trading under your sole trader vat account.

Pretty standard stuff.

It’s technical, but the basics are…

Sole Trader NOT already VAT registered = Ltd NOT Registered Until Threshold
Sole Trader already VAT registered = LTD MUST VAT Register

I believe it’s partly to do with your current stock and assets… You can’t just transfer anything you’ve claimed a VAT reduction for in to the new business without that business also being VAT registered, otherwise (in theory) you’d have to charge the new business the VAT on the value of transferred items or treat them as sales to the new Ltd.

You are able to transfer your existing sole trader VAT registration number to your new LTD company. You can do this easily online:

[Register for VAT: Transfer your registration - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)]
https://www.gov.uk/register-for-vat/transfer-your-registration

As far as Amazon simply change in account settings to your new Ltd company and submit the required documents for verification.
