Seller Hell Bent on Ruining My Business

Hello Everyone
Is it possible to Report A Seller who is hell bent on ruining my business & others?
Every day I am having to adjust my pricing as this seller (they know who they are) as do I, pretty easy to figure out when you look at listings and who else is selling the same item & there is only 2 or 3 of you! So no need to name & shame! I am a small business only been with Amazon 8 months & every time I add a new product I do the decent thing and come in at the price listed at the time to respect other sellers. However this seller not only knocks off a penny or 2 but goes way below that. Where do we stand with this? How can we compete with someone who is charging at a loss? When you factor in postage, cost of item, envelope, invoice printing etc there is no way they are making any profit! How can I keep my business going when I am obviously losing out on sales due to this 1 seller? So frustrated & so unfair!

It’s called competition, it’s perfectly fair and all businesses have to live with it

I sell a branded boxed card, retails at £10.49, Amazon are currently selling it for £1.88

I give up!

This is very common. I have a lot of competition on my listings and people are selling at a point where they can not possibly make any money.

I just let the competitors sell out at their cheap prices and then I get the sales at the price I want later on. I am lucky as I sell mostly in clothing and the lines I sell are limited production runs so I know if I wait I will get the sale I want.

There is nothing much you can do. Some suppliers I work with do stipulate that you can not sell below their RRP and so your only choice may be to report them to the supplier if they are doing this and they may stop supplying but it could be a risky strategy.

if their price is always 1 or 2p lower than yours, chances are they have an automated pricing system that is set to go below the lowest until they hit a certain amount

we undercut many sellers on some of our listings as we have been with our suppliers for 10 years and as we buy by the pallet rather than the box, we are on contract prices which are up to 70% lower than our competitors.

Due to the volumes we sell, we also have better prices on shipping

Although the policies say the buy box factors in lots of things, it really comes down to who is the cheapest or who can deliver fastest

If you want to be in the buy box at a higher price than your competitor, you need to offer faster delivery

In part its the nature of being on Amazon unfortunately, I have an automatic pricer on so that would potentially make me 1p less than your offering but I also have minimum and maximum prices set on it so that I never become ‘that person’ who massively undercuts as they’re very close to the retail price in most cases. Going off your name I’m guessing you might sell greetings cards and I find they are really bad for having some competition that must sell everything at a loss.

Economics 101, if the market is flush with many sellers selling the same product the buyer will find a low price, if you are the only seller with lots of buyers then you sell at a high price

While its annoying to have this rule, it has been around ever since that second seller came into the market with the same goods as the first seller

Find a product that has least amount of competition or you offer a far superior quality product - this is economics 102

Many of our listings have in excess of 30 other sellers. 2 or 3 of whom sell at cost price plus 5% at best. They usually last about 2 years, then go pop. Then along comes another 2 or 3 that do exactly the same.

Been that way for years. It’s annoying and a PITA but you can stay up at night worrying and stressing about it or expand your range, source cheaper stock, improve the speed you can ship at, offer a better service etc.

All of which will help to increase your sales, over simply trying to be the cheapest.

im sorry but this is the name of the game im afraid, beat your competition on price, and you are his competition, and yes the truly great businesses aim to put their competition out of buisness so they can dominate the market, welcome to capitalism and the business world

The biggest disadvantages you have when you compete on one EAN number with many sellers. Many sellers cut prices to compete for the buy box.

Card_Emporium_20, just a simple thought start working on the reverse engineering on the prices of the competitors and find what exactly they are getting. Also, work on probabilities on the pricing strategy where you can compete with them. The factor needs to consider on each EAN or SKU is cheap posting methods, cheap packaging, bulk buying, low-profit margin, volume-selling and many more.
