Royal Mail OBA Sacks

Hello All,

I was hoping someone could help with this as I am starting to struggle, I use royal mail OBA, print it off, manifest, and put it in sacks and drop at the post office, however order the sacks, its a nightmare very single time.

I do it well in advance,
each time I have to wait the 5 days before I can escalate it
then i’m ringing back again, to get it further, and still no sack delivery.

The have told me they are short of mail sacks which is why I don’t get any, so I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if you run out do you use something else as a bag?

Thanks very much in advance for any help, Kindest regards, Louise

The grey mail sack fiasco has been going on for as long as anyone can remember.

Get a reserve stock, then get a reserve for the reserve then re-order them a month before you need them.

Get friendly with your local Post Office who may bail you out occasionally.

I’ve used other bags in the past but its frowned upon even though they leave us with little choice at times.

I order them through the website and also our regular postie who puts some on his van for me. If I end up with double I have a reserve for my reserve for my reserve.

Its a Nightmare!

best to collect from your local delivery office -

“Can I have a Large Grey Bag, FULL of Large Grey Bags” works best!

We were told to ring the depot (Wakefield) to order them. We order 3 bag fulls of bags at a time and they come next day delivered by RM staff.

Thank you for the replies…

My depot where they come from is a real pain, you can’t just go in, and I have tried the number day in day out, no one answers it.

I am friends with the lady in the post office, but she might only have 1 or 2 spare to give me.

Wherever you drop them off find a way of dropping them off without sacks that makes their job harder, be apologetic and let them know it would be easier if you had bags. They tend to find them soon enough.

One time I was dropping off at a PO where I’d asked for a couple of sacks, I could see they had loads spare. They refused and then found their counters were covered with packages so I could take my sacks back. They managed to be able to find some for me after that. I don’t carry anything breakable so it worked.

This is what we have done in the past and it completely resolved this issue:

  • go to your local royal mail delivery office (Not post office), speak to a manager there
  • explain you use PPI account and that you get mail bag problems
  • ask if they could supply you with mailing bags if you come and collect from them - there is no reason why they would say no
  • get their loclal / direct phone number
  • phone them same day or day before, they will get a quantity ready for you
  • drive in and collect - problem solved

Don’t order them online, otherwise you will go round in circles

Let us know if it worked and how you got on…

As per other eeplys, we go into our local delivery office (around 4pm works best for us) and ask for a bag of bags, or ask to see the collections manager who normally starts his shift at midday and ask him direct. we have managed to become friendly with him and have no problems now. it seems a bit weird that you have to go to these lengths just to get some bags but thats royal mail for you.

We asked our daily collection guy for his mobile so we can text him certain days that we won’t be in. Since he would rather get a text (opposed to being stood waiting at the door for ages for no answer) - he kindly obliged! So now we can text for some bags too and 95% of the time we have them the same or next day. We’ve had a few drivers over the years and it’s always worked. Hopefully others will have the same luck trying this!

Hi i usually go to my local post office and explain that to them , you can ask them to lend you some in case you run out and they usually give you some to use until your sacks arrive .
i wouldn’t use any other sacks as it may ‘go missing’ .
