I have a franking machine - so what happens now?

I have a franking machine which is on lease for 5 years so I have to pay £143.00 per quarter for the rental. I have always put Royal Mail 1st or 2nd Class Stamped/Franked Mail for Large letters and Small parcels up to £7.00 in value.

Am I now being forced to purchase postage though Amazon which will be more expensive and time consuming or is there another way I can still use my franking machine and mark as dispatched without it affecting my VTR,

Surely I am not the only one in this situation

No you are not - and Amazon obviously did not even consider those businesses who have franking machines when they changed their ‘rules’ !

Although I don’t have a franking machine, I do think all those with them should have lobbied Amazon when they first made the announcement, and complained bitterly

A five year lease is an awfully long contract to be in, is that the normal for renting these? I’d never want to be in a 5 year contract for anything.

Can you terminate the contract early? Punishment fees?

No mine is like this.

Although I am in a 5 years contact the contract started 2 years ago.

So if I have to purchase postage from Amazon it is going to cost me an extra 8p per large letter in addition to the quarterly charge I have to pay to Pitney Bowes. Surely there must be a way around this

For the minute I have carried on as normal. I pay £1.37 plus hire charge
I see it is £1 .60 with amazon. It isn’t even just that. My system is quick and convenient. No printing extra labels etc as I frank envelopes in advance.
My contract which you usually negotiate is 3 years and started in October.
But it isn’t just that. It will be extra cost which will affect the buyer and extra time.for me. As far as I knew, just because the postage was bought from amazon did not guarantee delivery.
I actually did contact Cs when first announced and they said more or loss don’t worry so I didn’t. I wrote again recently and give or take the same answer.

Believe anything seller support tell you at your own risk. Especially when what they say contravenes actual written policy, that (whisper it) they probably don’t understand.

I guess. It has gone from na to 0%
I am seriously considering not selling on here anyway and finding another way.
I sell on other platforms of course.
Will wait for my warning.

Exactly. Why not go after those who are not running there business with care. I wonder if the founder would have been happy with being told how to grow his business!!!

Who are you with for franking and are you a sole trader?

We are with Quadient (formerly Neopost) and when we signed up it was a 5 or 6 year lease for the equipment. A few years back we had a disagreement with them and found out that even though we had a 5+ year lease, as we was a sole trader at the time we was allowed to be released without penalty after a 12 month period. There was/may still be a restriction on contract length with sole traders??

Needless to say that when we highlighted this to them they not only admitted it but offered us another deal that we could not miss.

We still use them for off Amazon sales, and have been fine since.

Ive just had my VTR report and the threrat of items being delisted due to no tracking. I sell items in the UK for £1.99 and send with Royal Mail first class stamp. I guess im completely screwed? We used to set it as stamps / franking and it was ok for 6+ years but suddenly it seems this is not working and we have the threat of being de-listed?
