EFN fees so high

Hello,

How do you guys manage to be profitable on selling on Germany, Italy, Spain, France (using EFN). I just started selling on those countries, and although my items are small and light, the shipping fees are big (in comparison with my price point). I did raise the prices, but had fewer sales and i lost my competitiveness. Moreover, I was charged more for referral.
I find it ridiculous that i pay about 50% on Amz fees (with VAT) when it s suppose to help sellers sell more. My customer paid €1.33 for shipping to France, while I paid €4.42 for FBA.
I still want to make use of this program, as I have more customers, but God… those fees…

I would like to hear your opinions and what you do.

I don’t do EFN for that reason.

But a customer may be prepared to pay the extra fees that you have added into the product price, as the product you are selling is not available in their country.

I just upprice my listings accordingly and take the extra sales as a bonus (a fraction of uk sales). It shocks me the prices some are willing to pay.

EFN amazon fees and commission are way too high, for us we have to bump up prices 50% up to avoid losses, but that too seems not helping as amazon fulfillment fees are difficult to calculate there. For eg, for a sale of Euro 53.4, amazon paid us 17.36!!! as you can imagine the losses are huge so there is not other way than to loose competitiveness and bump up the prices.

That is a problem and I think it is short sighted by Amazon. They want to push Pan European FBA but before signing up and registering for VAT in 6 countries we would need to know there was enough demand across Europe for our products. So with EFN price hikes it is harder to sell competitively across Europe so harder to assess the potential.

Now that Amazon (finally) allows postage templates I would like to see a similar system implemented for FBA items so you could setup one or more templates where an additional fee could be added automatically to the price.

I could then keep my items at same price across the EU - but the template would add enough to cover either my postage costs (for non FBA) or the EFN/FBA fees.

It must be quite easy to implement by now and would save a lot of headache for many sellers. I know that when I first started using FBA/EFN I did not take into account the higher fees and left my prices the same so losing a lot of money until I twigged.
