What is happening with amazon, their customers, and crazy combative demands? This is very new, and totally odd

So I’m not sure if other people have been experiencing this. But the last two weeks or so we have had the most incoming messages from customers demanding things of us. Such as cancel my order where is my refund? Why are you making us pay for return shipping? (calse, was with a cancelled order, on a saturday, it never SHIPPED!!!!) all of these nonsensical hysterical messages towards us, I have no idea what the customers are talking about.

For instance, customer ordered a whole bunch of samples, then turned around and canceled the orders. We already entered the orders into our system and created a shipping label. They still canceled. What did we do? We honor the cancellation and we refunded them their money. Two hours later we get a hateful message saying that is this some sort of a scam. Bear in mind this was a sample only costing $4.15 Plus free shipping. They're demanding their money back. But we already refunded them their money. I don’t understand. Do customers not look at their Amazon accounts. Does Amazon not send emails anymore showing that a refund has been submitted. Because I’m tired of getting hateful messages from customers acting like we are in the wrong when we’ve done everything we were supposed to do, but it seems as if all of these buyers are wound up in a ball.

They’re freaking out About every little thing, and like I said we have never had this many incoming messages about complete nonsense with customers complaining about every possible little thing in the world. And all of these things that they’re complaining about are outside of our control, like oh I had surgery or oh I planned for this this and that and this, and I’m like none of this has anything to do with our store, we shipped you what you ordered and you complain to us about problems with your own life.

So I just I don’t know this is happening to anybody else, But every time I turn on the computer I’ve got three or four messages from customers that are just being completely combative and most of the time we’ve already solved the customer issue, usually a refund, or honoring a cancel.... But it says if the customers don’t even monitor their accounts anymore, they don’t look at anything. They just scream and yell and send incessant messages over and over again, and call over and over again....

It’s 9 o’clock on a Saturday night and customers are calling and calling and calling like what are we doing here? It’s never been like this Amazon ever. we have been selling for many many years, and this is totally odd.

Could your competition be targeting you? Could a scammer be working you down?

I agree with @Seller_rI7BZIczK8iAC, send them to AMZ Customer Support. Make a canned response you can copy and paste, like:

"For the best and fastest support, please contact Amazon Customer Support for assistance. Thank you!"

Change one of the numbers on your phone number. I never have anyone call me. As for messages you respond once with an answer including if they need more info please contact Amazon Customer Support and mark no response after that. Report the message. There's clearly (to me) something fishy going on, probably a competitor, if they can't get a reaction out of you they'll start backing off. If you happen to recognize someone reordering that has giving you trouble, cancel their order.

You are not alone it has been out of control over the last few weeks. We got multiple with I opened item and it just fell apart and not up to expectations along with the many arrived late something must be going around on tick Tok how to get FREE Amazon this is why for every item we list on Amazon we now list an item on different platforms as push to get away from this crap! Even this last holiday we haven't seen returns like this since early covid only thing is sales are down over 50% from just 2023.... It could be Amazon plow to generate revenue doing this.

Ok, cool. Well, not cool, but I thought it was just me. I've been selling on Amazon for 23 years. But the last two years are getting out of control. Especially the last few months. I can only speculate why..

Americans are getting angrier. They are stressed and lashing out at each other. We are watching as the quality of life, the strength of the real economy and many markers of general happiness erode. America is a dying empire and people are angry and afraid and tearing each other apart over scraps as they watch the future slip away.

Amazon has put up walls between third party sellers and customers. On the 'Bay there is a somewhat more personal relationship between seller and customer. The customers over there are far friendlier on average. You get the occasional whacko, but nothing like it is here.

I am certain of the following: Amazon has created a customer base of spoiled prima donna toddler-customers who are aware of how easy it is to destroy a seller on Amazon. So the customers use bully tactics and are not afraid to extort, blackmail and coerce sellers here. Amazon policy seems intentionally designed to assist the customers in terrorizing sellers.

Amazon may be using this to their advantage. Amazon is heavily pushing their "customer service" on us. Endless email, calls (got one early today). They are desperately attempting to get sellers onboard with their so-called customer service. I calmly told the Amazon "customer service" guy that Amazon will simply refund every single customer if I put them in charge. Then I have to file a Safe-T claim which will likely get rejected. I told him, "no offense to you personally, but Amazon is a rigged game." Nothing good ever comes down anymore from Amazon.

If you previously used CSBA, a bad actor may have identified this fact. As a result, your store may have been added to a rogue list of Amazon stores somewhere where it's easy to get a refund AND a product if complaints are done in a specific way. Stick to your guns, it will die down as these people report lack of success to the list host. I'm sorry this is happening to you.

Amazon has trained people to buy things without reading the details. It's just BUY BUY BUY for them. This makes buyers turn into ruthless little brats. Amazon wants their money, and they want it FAST. If the sellers have to get thrown under the bus to obtain that fast money, then Amazon will do it (or have their AI do it) without thinking twice. It's like Amazon is afraid that if you spend too much time reading the details about an item, then you'll back out of the sale. We sell tire and wheel kits for UTVs which can be expensive. We dumb down the listing description as much as we can, with providing multiple spots showing machine specs, and saying "DON'T BUY THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ________MACHINE!" or "PLEASE MESSAGE US IF YOU STILL HAVE QUESTIONS WITH MACHINE SPECS!" And you know what? It STILL isn't enough. People will still somehow manage to miss ALL the machine specs we post and order it for the completely wrong UTV. Then they get mad at us when they realize they have to pay the return shipping costs.

It's mind blowing how dumb and unobservant these buyers are.
