I have a product that needs approval but the limited order amount is about 500 what happens if I don't get approved to sell that particular item on amazon

Be careful, so you aren't stuck with 500 of what you are selling. Sometimes it gets rejected at a warehouse, and you have a pay a return fee.
You might have to divulge what your selling for some real advice. People have used their savings because support said to send it in. Many brands are gated, and they aren't accepting new sellers for some other items.
