Inquiry About Compliance Requirements for Soaps

Dear Amazon Seller Support,

I hope this message finds you well. I understand that Amazon has a policy in place regarding compliance for soaps, but I’ve noticed that it’s not very specific, and there seem to be many unanswered questions in the forums.

While my current soap is already going through the compliance process, I’m reaching out to better understand the overall requirements for future planning. Are the detailed documentation and testing requirements applicable to all soaps, regardless of ingredients, or are they specific to certain regulated ingredients?

As a small business, having this clarity is essential for managing investments and ensuring compliance as I develop new products. I’d appreciate any guidance or resources you can provide to help me better navigate this process.

Thank you for your time and support.

Best regards,

To sell soap on Amazon, you must comply with all federal laws and regulations that apply to soap products. Here are some things to consider:

FDA regulations: True soap is regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Cosmetic product facilities and product listing: The Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA) requires the registration of cosmetic product facilities and product listing. MoCRA is set to take full effect on July 1, 2024.

Ingredient labeling: The label on your cosmetic product must accurately disclose each ingredient. The FDA recommends using a font size of at least 1/16 of an inch, or 1/32 of an inch if the labeling space is less than 12 square inches.

Prohibited ingredients: Do not include prohibited ingredients, such as bithionol and chloroform.

Safety: Ensure that your product is safe for use and is not identified by the FDA for recall.

Hi there @Seller_QbXRB3TgHPsbM,

I would recommend to follow the steps mentioned by @Seller_4zBzdtgCyS9EI, you will need to review the specific requirements with your own compliance experts and go over each product. Amazon takes product compliance very seriously but there isn't a silver bullet to address all possible compliance issues. Reviewing the FDA and CPSC documentation should be helpful. Thank you for your understanding.
