Charging for an extra delivery service after the sale?

Does anybody know if there is a facility to charge customers for delivery after they have bought the item. I have a customer who now wants to change the delivery of the item and is willing to pay extra for the service but I don’t know if I have the facility to charge the customer for this now that they have bought and the included delivery was free.

Can anyone help?

You cannot change the delivery cost. Buyer has to cancel the order and re-order choosing the delivery option they want

Or you can suggest they “buy” another item from you, equivalent to the extra postage amount,. You mark it shipped but don’t ship (and maybe refund any extra)

if they want you to redirect to another address then don’t.

Unless you are happy for a INR claim and refund to be given by Amazon because the item was posted to an address that was not on the original order.

Assuming you have not shipped the order, then to follow Amazon process, the buyer should request you to cancel the order, then reorder once you have either added express postage, or adjusted your price to reflect the extra cost of shipping.

Whatever you do, don’t change the address on the order received, or if sold on the UK site don’t agree to post to any location outside the UK, or you risk a scam and A-Z claim.

Another option as suggested by @Mrs_Ples to just cover the extra cost, is for the buyer to buy and send you an Amazon gift voucher?

Just to clarify. the item has already been dispatched and I received a message today explaining that the ship to address should have been completely different and the customer has offered to reimburse me any associated costs.

There have been issues however where we have had to deliver to the Isle of Man/ Jersey and incurred extra costs on deliveries and the customer is willing and understands the extra costs involved but I dont have the facility to charge extra. The items we sell are medium to high value and of a certain size generally so delivery costs can vary dramatically for harder to reach locations.

I have messaged the customer that we can refund item minus cost of re delivery and if they wish to reorder with the correct address they can do. RE Extra charges via delivery I think a phone payment is probably the most suitable but you would probably get in trouble if it ever got back to Amazon

It’s not we exclude Scottish Highlands, it’s Amazons insistence the Mainland UK encompasses all of the UK regardless of distance and actual breaks in the landmass.
This is fine for Royal Mail deliveries but when someone orders an article over Royal Mails weight limit or carriage restrictions then we have to use a courier and we all know couriers charge extra for Scotland and none of them will agree on what constitutes the highlands.

Amazons shipping templates are not sophisticated enough to allow proper location zoning to display the correct charges for couriered items beyond what Royal Mail can ship.
