Confusion with Stickerless Co-mingled Inventory

Hello, I'm looking for some advice regarding stickerless co-mingled inventory please! I'm very confused.

My FBA settings are Barcode preference = Manufacturer barcode and each of my SKU's are set to use the manufacturer barcode, this is shown / confirmed on the send to Amazon workflow.

The first time I sent some products to FBA with this in place, I got a defect because I hadn't applied labels. I opened a seller support case and we told this was an error and I did not need to apply labels. I sent another load of products and got another defect. I contacted seller support and was told that I still needed to apply FBA shipment labels to each box.

Is the FBA shipment label separate from the Amazon barcode label? Is it the case that I don't need to add an Amazon barcode label but must still add and FBA shipment label (which would render the name "stickerless co-mingled inventory" rather misleading and confusing)? If I don't need to apply any extra labels, how to do get these FBA defects removed and stop them from repeating in future?

Thanks folks!

FNSKU labels are what is used in place of the manufacturer barcodes and go on each item.

FBA shipment labels go on each box / carton so Amazon know who they're from and what should be inside.

If you're going with stickerless co-mingled inventory you don't need the FNSKU but do need the shipment labels.

As to whether it's misleading and confusing, i plead the fifth on that one.
