can address be changed after the order is despatched? refund demand.
Strange one. I received an order early January for a book and despatched it tracked 48. now I have received a rather rude message saying it was never received, I'm a horrible person and a refund is needed. What's odd is that the delivery address shows only a first name and a London :Postcode, and though I can't remember it, i don't think I would have despatched to somewhere so imprescise.
To add to that, the proof of posting shows a number for the postcode ( full street details are not entered at the Post Office). The postcode I sent to is 1 letter different to the one now shown on the order, and in a different part of the country. The RM tracking history shows the package pinging around different sorting offices until in late February they tell me it was delivered, to yest another part of the country!
So, definitely some address problems when despatched, but also lots of doubt. Ring any bells?

Amazon hides certain specifics of the address after a given time (presumably/supposedly due to data privacy issues).
I'm not sure if you can still retrieve the missing detail from that long ago if you download an order report but it's worth a try.
It's quite a good idea to make your own records of orders for cases like this.
By the way, if you use Buy Shipping, the address is automatically added from Amazon.

Do you print out address labels when you post or handwrite them?

Amazon redact most of the address details after a certain amount of time. Though the postal code wouldn’t change.
As for what happens next, if it was January the order was placed, then they may be out of time to open an A-Z. So I’m unsure if there is much they can do.
They might be able to open a chargeback, and then it’s a case of providing all the evidence you have.

One option Royal Mail tracked delivery recipients do have is to change the delivery address to another local address within the wider postcode so potentially could be a scam but would be lot of phaff unless of course the book was high value.

If Amazon generate an Invoice (if you opted into that), then it should show name/address details.
If you used Buy Shipping, it can only send to the address the Buyer input, so, I am assuming that was not used, and in error you input the wrong postcode as the details left showing, do not change.
If you booked with RM, they may have full details ok, and I'd raise a claim with them if you can.
If you input the address correctly, it should have got there ok. BUT, if you input the wrong postcode, and started say 2 as the house number, maybe you did not notice the whole address was incorrect.
Tracked 48, not booked at the PO? - was this handwriten on the envelope and mis-read?
In any case to save an A-Z Claim, I'd refund the Buyer as something went wrong.
Reply to the Buyer, apologise and provide tracking details to prove you sent ok. Refund in full and try and claim from RM
