Is Amazon automatically giving FREE Returns on FBM items?

I noticed that all my FBM listings now have FREE returns listed on them. Meaning FBM sellers will now be responsible for paying for customer returns and also Fee shipping if you offer that on your product. Ive called twice regarding this and I was told that there was nothing I could do to remove the Free returns option to customers ... that this was done automatically by Amazon. This is something ... I know Amazon is all for the customers and cares zero about the sellers but this is really sad not to give us that option when Amazon is all ready a Scammer haven.

Hi @Seller_fzcuZITDpo5uv

After reviewing Case 15883728791, I can confirm the order was for clothing items. Per our policies, clothing purchases are eligible for free returns - this is not optional.

If you wish to continue selling clothing, you must account for the cost of free returns in your business model. Alternatively, you can choose to stop listing clothing items.

Please let me know if you need any clarification or have additional questions.

Thanks, Susan

Amazon is doing whatever comes to mind to please buyers at the sellers expenses in order to continue thriving as the e-commerce it became years ago when there were one or to competitors only. Your stock, your revenue, your profitability is not its concern. My advice, continue using the FBM channel vs the FBA channel. I've marked 2022 as the year in which selling here became a nightmare for the smallest fishes in the tank. They prefer dealing with the BIG WHITE SHARKS that merely complain for lost merchandise/ reimburse at half the cost/buyers fake returns or request for replacements/ negative feedback etc. etc.

Yes, sellers eat the cost of return shipping (as well as original shipping). I was able to recoup 2 Dat shipping on an item that the buyer admitted she bought the wrong item. It's the best safe t claim I ever got.

You can charge restocking fees but run the risk of sitting on pins and needles refreshing your feedback screen for 1-star negative feedback of "Restocking fees?? Huh??"

A customer bought a pair of shoes recently. The outbound shipping label cost $10. She returned the shoes and said "I bought another pair because I didnt think these shoes would arrive in time". The return label cost $10. Also, Amazon keeps 3% of every order total, even though the item is returned. Thats another $3.

So we lost $23 on this sale. Multiply this by 25 returns like this per week and that is -$575 or around $2000 worth of losses per month, $24k of losses a year, without even making an official sale.

Just doesn't seem right to us.

It is probably best to add them to a list of bad buyers that your fellow sellers can read. Those sellers are more likely to act on the information than the feds.

Amz has Free Returns on a number of our NON CLOTHING listings - so it must be more than Clothing now.

So easy to say - just jack up your price so other buyers will have to take the hit for a few that abuse this platform and everyone (including this platform) has fewer sales due to higher prices and noticed of 'inflated prices' and have your listing taken down.... - Brilliant way to get 3P's off the platform quickly and open up to China direct program that should be coming along soon.

This is how Amz treats China sellers - - our friend that is a China based seller has shared that if an FBA item is returned to Amz and is damaged/missing parts.... in any way - the buyer gets 100% and seller eats it all. Then seller has to decide what to do with all returns - damaged or not. So they pay a disposal fee and Amz sells to 3P pallet buyers - Total Win for Amz = F' everyone else
