Amazon FBA UK VAT Registration Required

Hello,

Wondering if someone can provide some insight as I am struggling currently with seller support.

I am registered as a Sole Trader in the UK, I am a UK Resident and reside in the UK.

I have only just opened my account and have zero sales history as starting out!

I know I am below the 85k threshold for VAT but SS say that I am required to be VAT registered as the goods are being stored in the UK Warehouse.

Looking around on the forums I have put all the Amazon EU stores to holiday mode, removed shipping options to EU countries and changed FBA settings in Pan-European FBA.

Amazon have said the below to me, does anyone happen to know why they still think I need to be VAT registered? Am I missing something very obvious?

We would like to let you know that you are storing your products in the UK FBA inventory and we would like to inform you that you cannot store your products in UK FBA inventory without a VAT number. We also understand that you do not have UK VAT number as your threshold is less than 85000 GBP. In order to resolve this issue, you may need to remove your inventories from UK by creating removal order and you may also need to disable the country "United Kingdom" from the FBA settings.

Thanks, hope you guys can provide some insight or a spiel to give back to Amazon!

Oh my goodness !!! - once again TOTALLY incorrect advice given by SS - unbelievable ! - that is scary. Yes, if you are a NETP, ie. not resident in UK as the threshold does not apply to non-UK residents.

As a long time seller on here there have been many instances over the years where SS have given wrong information and sellers have ended up in a worse mess thinking that the advice they had been given was correct.

If you are resident in UK, and your turnover is under £85K then you do NOT need to be VAT registered to store goods in FBA.
