What is the purpose of Amazon's bot just randomly changing browse nodes other than to just mess with us and make things more diffcult?
I had a listing that quickly ranked as a #1 best new seller in a particular category and got me quite a number of steady sales coming in. I'm quite new here and was really proud of myself. Then suddenly, sales dropped off a cliff for a couple days and i thought that maybe it's just a bad time of the month or something. But nah, the browse node had changed and my rank had been removed. After about a week of barely any sales, I realized this. Had it changed back, and voila like magic I get a ton of sales.
There is no logical reason to have something like a browse node randomly change without so much as notifying the seller. It should also at least be a recommendation, not just forced upon you because the bot clearly has a history of getting it wrong. It can even be something as simple as saying '' If seller has a good history of categorizing items first - make recommendation. If seller does not - force the change " Is there some kind of secret motivation behind this to just annoy sellers and frustrate people just for the lols?
Is there no way to lock it in the browse node you selected so it can't be changed? I feel like having to check every single one of my listings every single day to make sure the browse nodes haven't changed again is incredibly dumb and there must be a better way

you basically have to be very careful about the words you use in your title, bullet point and descriptions. The bot picks up on certain key words and decides that you don't know what you are selling and corrects your "mistake". Opposite to that, make sure the befitting keywords keeping it in the correct category are used often and clearly....

I fully understand your situation. My wood signs keep getting changed to Pepper Mills. I assume it is because My brand name includes the word "Mill" as in sawmill.

Yes, having the same issue with a behind the scenes bot change to GL Product Group: gl_media. Based on that the listing is paused and you are instructed to edit the listing which is blocked from editing due to this classification. Customer support is "doing the needful thing" which is Indian for I have no idea what to do.

Mine keeps getting changed from HAIR_COLORiNG_AGENT to MARKING_PEN. Its a gray hair concealing "marker" for beards. Called Beard Marker. It not office stationary like a Sharpie marker or for art like a Crayola marker. It's a marker for your beard! Sooooooo annoying but they got it fixed, so atleast there's been progress.

Welcome to Amazon and the Amazon bots. Congrats on the first listing. Prepare for stuff like this to just be an ongoing problem for... well ever basically? This isn't like other marketplaces, Amazon has hordes of bots and AI that are more A than I and most of the support services do not want to correct those bots so :(

Hey!
Where can you check your browse node? Is it visible by checking the sub categories?

The bot exists because sellers will incorrectly classify their items, sometimes intentionally to gain an unfair advantage. It also changes product types, adds flags for geographical restrictions and regulatory compliance (e.g. pesticides).
It's frequently wrong and often difficult to correct, especially if you sell niche products. Amazon really should notify sellers, improve the process to make corrections, and overall make the bot better.
I'll throw in my examples.
I once had a product incorrectly classified as a pesticide. It had no pesticidal qualities or claims but the bot picked up on a phrase in my description and froze the listing. Two weeks of back and forth emails with support didn't help. I ended up taking the pesticide training, getting approval to sell pesticides, and then editing my listing.
The same product was later moved to the grocery category, again due to the bot picking up on keywords. It says on the label "For laboratory use only, not for human consumption." Two weeks of arguing with support about it, I had mention the legal liability of selling a product that wasn't food safe in a food category.
I am the brand owner, registered in brand registry. I am the manufacturer and the sole seller of this product.
