Listed book as hardcover but it is actually a paperback but editing doesn't work
Awhile back we listed a book as a hardcover accidentally even though it is a paperback. When I went to edit the listing, it let me choose paperback but the "Hardcover" attribute seems to be locked. The listing still has it as a Hardcover. Now there are so many resellers on this book and it's being sold as "Hardcover". I've opened two cases on it and I still can't get it changed. Very frustrating and I'm unsure what to do at this point.

You need to delete your offer on that ASIN. Then find the ASIN for the paperback version of the book; if it doesn't exist, you can create it from scratch.

It can be easy to do because Amazon's book catalog still has many iSBNs that are incorrectly attributed. I had a softcover with the correct Standard Book Number (circa 1970s) that Amazon had that same SBN for the hardcover. A customer ordered the softcover off of the SBN but thought they were getting the hardcover.
A couple of years ago we went thru the ISBN debacle and some of this was fixed but not all. After that mishap with a very accommodating and understanding customer, I did a search for hardcover to see what other books that I had listed that were wrong .. it turned out to be about 20 that I had to delete and redo with those 801 ASINs .. never dull .. This is why Inever upload books using the Standard Inventory Loader -- too many ISBNs in the Amazon catalogue mis-attributed in some way. And incorrect format (paperback / hardback) is the most common mistake. Usually there will be a paperback option with its own ASIN, and you should do as Nisha advises -- delete your listing, find the paperback in the Amazon catalogue and re-list it under that ASIN. But just be glad you caught it before someone placed an order for it. Often we only discover this after an order for the wrong format has been placed. Someone ordering a paperback and getting a hardback is not so bad. It's the other way around that causes a real problem.
(I do wish Nisha could walk us through "listing an item from scratch." We used to do this all the time, but as of about a year ago, Amazon rendered it impossible for us to do this.)

Is it a advanced reader copy? Most ARC's have the same ISBN as the hardcover.
