Amazon Returnless Refund Policy Is A Joke

Hi,

I sell t-shirts on here, 10 days ago i sold and shipped a t shirt to Dublin ireland, this morning i had a return request… Buyer Comment: I was only looking at this item but I had my card details on my account and accidentally ordered it.

About an hour later i had an email stating that a refund has been applied, after going into the return i’ve realised it says Resolution: ReturnlessRefund which i had not heard of so i did some reading on the policy to understand it all.

Now there’s no reason this t-shirt should have had a returnless policy, i know in the policy it states if you don’t have a domestic return address on file they will automatically do the returnless policy, i have had my return address set for a few months which is same address for all stores so this isnt the issue. Also the policy states ‘‘Amazon will automatically issue the customer a refund on your behalf. In that case, where return requests fall within the scope of the Amazon Return policy’’ surely ordering by mistake doesn’t fall in that scope? I’d assume thats if faulty or broken or different item than what was ordered etc but not for ordering by mistake surely?
another thing the policy states is that it is on orders under 20GBP, they are recieving a £20.97 refund so that doesn’t work out.

I have been on amazon live chat this afternoon for 1 hour 30 trying to get an explanation as i think it’s very unfair and has annoyed me. How can a customer order an item by ‘mistake’ open a return and just automatically get refunded for it without having to return the item if it wasnt faulty or anything, makes no sense.

It’s pretty worrying as this will only cause alot of scams i believe. I got transferred to 3 different reps on ebay live chat … 1st one was telling me because it’s international order if i dont have my return address set it will do that, i stated my returns address has been set since 02 september, i was then cut off without warning and another rep joined the conversation and i asked to read everything above, this rep was more helpful & after another 30 mins checking it all out & going over the policys he stated he doesn’t understand why it happened either. I was then put on to another rep & after another 45 mins explaining to him whats happened, he was just copy and pasting the policys to me & chatting about it being an international order and ireland not being in the uk etc which i said is irrelevant, in the end did say he understands where im coming from. He has opened a ticket to the right department for me.

Just keep an eye for stuff like this, pretty frustrating. Neither of the 3 reps could give me a good explanation they were all trying to make it seem like it was my fault or i was missing something but couldnt tell me what. It wasn’t my return address, that is set. it wasn’t because it’s damaged, faulty or anything as they ordered by mistake. and the first part of the policy states ‘‘Effective October 05, 2021, if you are fulfilling customer orders for items under GBP20 (including VAT and shipping charges), sold on Amazon.co.uk from outside the UK…’’ however they are recieving £20.97 refund

The policy is here: https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/help.html?itemID=G202174940&language=en_GB&ref=efph_G202174940_cont_202072200

Wil see what they come back with on the support ticket the last rep opened for me. I would just like an explanation or crediting for the refund. Any thoughts?

Dont bother with support they do not provide a good response, i have the same problems, They even auto authorize for customised products which before could be denied returns due to personlisation on the products. Also I get orders a few minutes after I ship they open a return request for accidental order which auto refunds them.

I do believe you would need an address in Ireland for your return in order for it not to be returnless

There are quite a few threads discussing this though, have a search

Seller_qZO3ZCjoBXEeL

Yes it is. You cannot have the same address for all stores as the address needs to be in the same country as the buyer. In this case you a required to have a return address in Ireland.

Presumably the t-shirt was less than £20 then shipping on top? It is the value of the goods that matters in the policy, not the total value of the order.

How do you set a return address in ireland for sales on amazon.co.uk? I always thought you had to have one adress per marketplace and for .co.uk that would be an address in the UK

80

Seller_SITNVuZK87zGK

But the policy states

Provide a Domestic Return option : Provide a local return address in the buyer’s country. For example, if you sell on Amazon.co.uk, you will provide a return address in the United Kingdom.“

So while the customer is in Ireland, they purchased on amazon.co.uk so the return address should be based in the UK. Even if you take the line as read that the local return address needs to be in the buyers country, it’s still impossible to set two return addresses on one marketplace as far as I can tell

Right think I’m getting there with this now. My confusion stemmed over the need to add in a return address, I can see now I assume you would be able to, when the order is over £20/€25 add your own label which I assume could therefore be to an Irish address.

As to why this was an auto refund OP even though you state the refund was for £20.97. I would put that down to exchange rates. The Irish customer will have paid in euros so while it’s OVER £20 to you, it would have been UNDER €25 to the customer

Just ended my association with amazon after many years due to their unsustainable “new” selling rules and ridiculous removal of so called dangerous goods ( sterling silver rings ? )…and when challenged said they had a glitch …which they have never fixed …potential of actually refunding more than I took …so its bye bye amazon and good riddance

But is there a way to add multiple return addresses to one zone?

We have a local address for each platform (.co.uk - UK, .de - Germany, .fr - France etc) But there is no way to add Ireland as an extra return address anywhere? So the system is faulty and doesn’t give you the chance to respond with an Ireland return address.

This whole return policy is a joke. It should be unless faulty or sellers fault in some way, teh buyer pays, regardless of what country etc.

I wouldn’t dream of buying something from another country, changing my mind then expecting the seller to pay to get it back, that is just wrong on so many levels.

This whole return policy is a joke. It should be unless faulty or sellers fault in some way, teh buyer pays, regardless of what country etc.

I wouldn’t dream of buying something from another country, changing my mind then expecting the seller to pay to get it back, that is just wrong on so many levels.
