Barcode Placing

Hello FBA sellers!
I’m just starting out and I have a lot of confusion about the barcodes. I know that you need a UPC barcode, but when you are placing your first inventory shipment you also get the amazon barcodes, do you place the barcode that amazon is giving you on top of the UPC? Do you need to place the UPC barcode on the product at all if you have to put the amazon one as well? I know you need to have only one barcode on the product. I’m thinking of just putting the barcodes myself rather than sending it to the supplier so I can make sure everything is done right. I haven’t purchased any kind of barcode yet. Thank you!

Then you have a few options

You can apply for gtin exemption and create the listing with no barcode at all and send the stock in on fnsku labels

Or you can buy UPC/EAN/GTINs from GS1 to create your listing and apply these to your products
From this option you then have 2 more options. Send in on manufacturer barcodes (if the system allows it) or, send in on fnskus which you stick over the manufacturer barcodes

But that brings you to Brand - have you got a trademark ?

Yes, it will be a household item. I wasn’t exactly sure if I need to have a trademark for the brand. I’ve done the logo and sent it to the manufacturer already but I guess I missed this part…

You don’t need a trademark unless you want to ‘protect’ your listing and promote your brand through brand registry

You could apply for brand approval but it doesn’t offer the promotion and protection of BR

Have a look at the seller university pages

Before you send stock, are you fully registered with hmrc and verified on amazon as a business seller
