Selling Grocery in EU

Hi All,

I sell in the grocery category, UK marketplace only. I am considering joining the pan-European programme, I have a few questions and would really appreciate any help.

  1. The grocery products I sell are written all in English, if I enrol onto the pan-European, am I require for all products to be relabelled in the local language?

  2. With regards to VAT, am I required to set up a business in one of the EU marketplaces to gain a VAT number, or do I need only need to acquire a VAT number without setting up a business. For the relevant procedure, how do I go about completing this step?

Not sure on your first point, but would suggest that you look at the various labelling requirements.
You may need to have the label in at least one EU language…

With VAT, there is no need to setup a separate EU business, but you do need to register for all the countries that you will be storing stock in. Which basically means all 6 for PanEU.
If it’s something you want to do, then you might want to take a look at the offer Amazon have for the first year free.
But do think very carefully about it as everything is currently in flux and nobody really knows how things are going to settle.
Plus the EU is heading towards a single EU vat number, but until that happens, you will have to register for all.
