Jersey? How do I add more for my postage costs?
Hi,
Had an order for Jersey, which has cost me as much as the item is worth to send it? Is there a way of setting my postal prices to more for Northern Ireland Highlands and Channel Islands?

I ship to Jersey and use Royal Mail. The cost is the same as shipping to an address in the UK. What is it you are sending?

This is a good question.
I send parcels to Jersey all the time through Royal Mail. Anything under 2kg is fine, same cost as delivering to UK mainland.
Anything over 2kg would have to go by Parcelforce which would cost £12.98 for second class service. Just before Christmas, I sent a parcel to Jersey, 2.23kg. It cost me £33, as now it has to go Parcelforce Global.
I offer free shipping, so you can imagine the hit this one cost. Overall cost to the customer was £29.00.
So, how do you change the postal costs for anything over 2kg???

Too bad if you’re a seller based outside the UK. Then the mainland carriers see this island as outside EEC and you have to pay 40 tot 150 euro in shipping costs and Amazon does not let the sellers outside the UK exclude this island (like several others) because they are not aware of this fact.

I have asked buyers to cancel on a few occasions where an item over 2kg was being sent as it was uneconomical.

There is a way to fix this. Create a new shipping template in SS, then put the higher postage cost in, then only assign that sku to it.

As A PRO Seller you cannot block the CI. Amazon class as part of the UK, even though it is not part of the UK.
They used to have separate shipping for CI, NI, Off Shore etc, then altered it a number of years ago.
Other than the CI, for NI, Off shore etc, use MyHermes, use the Print in Store service they only charge £2.95 for 5Kg anywhere in the UK.
They do not ship to outside the UK and CI is outside the UK.
If you use average weight shipping with Royal Mail, you can send something over 2Kg to CI for a 2Kg parcel rate, if other items are under 2Kg, ask Royal Mail.
Otherwise, cancel the order and take the hit, the Buyer won’t order again if you let them know why. Note phone calls to there are also expensive. Some Buyers also cancel themselves if asked and they know why. So for example 2 smaller under 2Kg items may be acceptable instead?
We also use this service as they offer a lower rate to Channel Islands, and for other larger parcels as well, uses Parcelforce but at contract rates, ideal for returns as well, as drop off to a Post Office for a lower price, use link:

Hope that helps
