Listing error - GS1 GTIN - Value specified is invalid?
Hi, I really hope someone is able to help me please. For days now I’ve had a case log open with Amazon regarding an error 5461. I purchased 5 barcodes from Barcode Mania UK - these were creating the error 5461. So after emailing Barcode Mania today the kind lady stated that as I am brand registered with Amazon I need GS1 UK barcodes.
So I have just signed up to their website and purchased the minimum 1000 barcodes.
I have yet again tried to list my product (3 variations) and now it is saying that 'the value specified is invalid). I’ve tried all the options next to it (EAN/UPC/GTIN etc) and EAN brings up the 5461 error and GTIN brings up the invalid message!
What am I doing wrong as I am seriously loosing the plot with this whole listing malarky. Surely it can’t be this difficult!!! Or am I just being thick!?!
Cheers in advance x

You’re possibly just not allowing enough time for the GS1 database to register you and Amazon to catch up.
By the way- only GS1 barcodes are valid on Amazon in all circumstances

Hi as mentioned above its probably time it can take upto 72hrs roughly for GS1 and other times they seem to work the following day.

They are still not working and Amazon are saying that the barcodes are mismatched! They want proof of my barcode on my product with a picture. The thing is, I’m not going to use this barcode on my product packaging as I’m need to put Amazon’s FNSKU on the packaging They don’t seem to understand this though!

Hi, we are in exactly the same boat.
We recently registered a few trademarks with Brand Registry, and we couldn’t list any products under these brands.
After 3 cases, i was told to upload pictures of the products , barcodes etc. But this didn’t really made sense to me, as the Brand is unique to our business, so they will obviously be unique.
I then spoke to someone on chat, and they said error 5461 is related to EAN validity or matching error. I was asked, when did I submitted my GS1 certificate, i hadn’t uploaded one, as no-one had ever asked me to.
I have just send the GS1 certificate across, and hopefully, this will fix the issue, and show that the codes we are using to upload our items, are unique to our business.

Hi for a new seller and it is common for them to verify things and on occasion for existing sellers.
They will usually ask either invoice or proof of supply depending on if you manufacturer it yourself or have it manufactured.
Evedence of the end product and packing ensuring packing regulations are met if there are any specific requirementa for the particular product.
For BR if you have uploaded TM and using GS1 you need to first ensure TM is fully published or you won’t get very far and as for GS1 it needs to be exact match to your product so if your brand was “XY1” and your the manufacturer the product should be listed in GS1 as “XY1” as brand and sub brand.
Hope that helps explain a little more.

Hi guys,
Ok so I received this reply from Amazon this morning!!
I understand that your concern is regarding 5461 error.
Upon review, I can see that you are using mismatched UPCs. UPC owner and Brand do not relate.
Please provide proof that the UPC belongs to the brand: bECOsy
Provide an image of the product that clearly shows the barcode, brand and product. You may include multiple images to ensure that all the required information is captured.
Thank you for selling with Amazon.
Peter - My brand is unique and there is not another item on Amazon that matches my product. The barcodes are unique to my brand and have never been used before and I have provided the GS1 certificate to Amazon to prove this.
As I have 3 variations, will I need to stick each different barcode to each size or will one size and barcode suffice?
Also, if I can just use my GS1-13 number barcode on my product - this means it won’t have the wording of the FNSKU labels e.g. New and the product name, will this matter?

Hi Peter
My brand ™ has been registered by the IPO and I have a certificate for it. With regards to my brand and GS1 matching - well I created it myself with my brand name - so I don’t quite understand it all. I’ve been on chat with Amazon and on the phone to them today. I’ve taken photo’s of my product with the 3 GS1 barcodes and have sent them over to them. So now I’m waiting to hear again.

Hi Peter … Yep I originally got the error 5461 when I tried listing with barcodes from Barcode Mania.

Hi all, just an update really.
Yesterday I received an email to say that my barcodes had finally been approved.
Thanks to everyone who offered solutions xx
