Approval requirements from Amazon

Hi there,

I’m an individual seller that sometimes buy brand new toys or recordable cds to sell on Amazon as they are from charity shops, to list them on Amazon they require approval . How can I submit invoice for just one item ? How can I sell these type of items which I buy randomly from charity shops . Please advise. Thank you in advance.

It was pointed out to me that they have disclaimers stating that they “occassionally” purchase carefully selected used items and wrap them for protection reasons. i.e. they seal them to look like new and price just below the new price.

You can’t.
Amazon is not got a good place for doing that kind of thing.
You need to look at using the likes of Ebay instead.

Strictly speaking, if you have already purchased something, then it’s no longer brand new.

I would suggest selling on eBay.

You aren’t selling brand new items, they are second hand. You cannot prove the items are new as your invoices are not from the manufacturer or authorised distributor.

What you are doing is known as retail arbitrage. You cannot sell the items as new because they’re not. Just because they are in unopened packaging doesn’t mean they are new. They were only new when sold by a shop or business to a customer. As soon as the customer takes delivery, they are now second hand (even if unopened). Donating them to a charity shop adds another level so technically they are third hand. You can sell items as Used - Like New and then add a condition note to say they are unopened, where Amazon will allow you to list. As Neil and Peter have said, Ebay or similar is a better option.

Thank you for quick reply. I don’t mind to sell them as used but the thing is amazon don’t give me this option , as soon as I enter the barcode into the add product box , it says request approval , No other options. Do I need to contact amazon or this is as it is ?

Don’t try eBay. Keep pushing Amazon.

I too am a Used seller, and occasionally, an item that is already being sold used is gated to me.

Amazon offer a platform to sell used items, but just some. Toys and games is a nightmare. This 1998 boardgame is fine, this 2009 boardgame, No, I don’t care if there are no current offers and its been out of print ten years, you are not selling it. I have through effort, removed the restriction on one board game (Sin City), that was gated, but now its not, apparently Amazon said it was in the wrong category. I understand you will get no joy with monopoly, or a game released in the last few years, but if a game is being sold used, and ownership cannot be proven, then all sellers should have the ability to sell that game used, and not just restricted to sellers who sell new games too.

Hi Roza1345 - further to everything else thats been said you also nned to stop doing what you’re doing straightaway and sell on other sitesfor this sort of thing. They’ll need opening and testing too. The reason being that Charity Shops and even places like Pound type shops and discount stores are buying old Argos returns (often faulty) and resealing them to look like new.

I personally bought a load of items that were way too good to be true… and that’s exactly what they were. Bin fodder - ruins your reputation and gets the customer very very angry. Luckily I noticed long befoe even trying to sell them and binned the lot.

Be very wary as you will lose your account quicker than syaing 123 if you aren’t.

I would hope that if you have been caught with that one, you have reported to trading standards and the police?
That is actually against the law. You also agree when purchasing these kind of items, not to resell as new.

Amazon told me that Amazon respects a manufacturer’s right to enter into exclusive distribution agreements for its products. As the enforcement of these agreements is a matter between the manufacturer and the retailers, it would not be appropriate for Amazon to assist in enforcement activities.
