Fake negative review

Just started selling on Amazon and got fake negative review under one of my listings before I managed to post my first sold item. The author, Tdt, happens to be my competitor from eBay, Tdt Aquatics, another seller. Report it to Amazon and have been waiting for 3 days now for it to get removed. How is this possible that people can leave reviews without buying? How long do I have to wait for the removal? It drives me nuts that they're ruining my reputation.

Amazon have always allowed this as the reviews are of the product which amazon will generally assume are available off amazon.

You certainly do sound like you've been hit by a competitor (and I'm surprised they made themselves that easy to spot!) but its highly likely amazon won't even do anything, they certainly won't be quick about it.

If the review is defamatory - you may be able to take legal action. See below on if this fits the case

Defamatory Reviews

To take legal action against a negative online review, it must be defamatory. To prove a defamation claim, an online review must be:

  • false or dishonest; and
  • cause (or likely to cause) serious harm to your business’ reputation.

Serious harm to businesses essentially means severe financial loss.

I imagine one amazon listing is not likely to be seen as severe, but I suppose it depends on the context.
