How to claim VAT paid by carriers while importing to EU?

I am new to VAT, I have had around 50 small shipments coming from outside of EU and they were imported by carriers like UPS and DHL. I have their invoices which shows the amount of VAT they have paid to release my package from custom.

How can I claim those amounts? Do you know any accountant who can help me with this confusing process?

Thank you

You need to be registered with HMRC Vat Department - once you have a Vat number you can re-claim the amounts paid. HOWEVER be aware you will have to pay HMRC the vat due on your future sales (20% of your sales income) as you must charge vat on sales.

I take it that you are not based in the EU then? Are you shipping goods into an FBA centre?

Are these invoices you paid prior to VAT registration?

I think you’re getting confused with Import Duty and VAT.

Again… Import Duty, not VAT
