European Sales Help

I’ve got a 2 part question that I need help on please.

I made a few sales in Europe (France,Italy&Spain) last summer. It was during a month where I made my highest amount of sales on Amazon so these sales I presume would have mixed up among my UK sales. Since then I have drifted off Amazon to due to health commitments with my son.

I didn’t even know I had made the sales abroad until recently.
I’ve just received a tax invoice from France and noticed I have a few hundred euros in the European Amazon accounts. This hadn’t been paid to me due to not having my bank details set up in those Amazon European accounts. Again, I didn’t realise I was making sales in Europe at the time so had no reason to set up those accounts.

It turns out that I made £800 in sales in France and that I am being taxed on that amount.
But Amazon fees for that £800 was over £550!?!

So my 2 questions are

  1. Why are the fees so high?

  2. How do I go about finding out what tax to pay and do I have to pay tax on the £800 sales when I actually only made £240 after Amazon fees. I do have an accountant but I am not VAT registered.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You don’t have any tax to pay.
That is a notification that you have paid that tax and not that you owe it. Assuming it is the one from Amazon.

If you want to post the notification you have, I can verify that for you.
Obviously remove any personal information from it first.

The fees will be higher, because your probably using EFN. Which is expensive.
So at some point, you have probably used the BIL tool, to setup listings in other countries.
