FBA returns - customer not returning full product

hi all, how does it reason that a customer can return, for example, 1 (empty) bottle of a 6 bottle set and claim the item is defective and receive a full refund?

Seller support claims that once an FBA item is marked defective, it doesn't matter how it's returned by the customer, it's refunded. Just seems like a crazy ability for the customer to scam sellers by keeping 5/6 of the product and claim a full refund ... If I took 1/6 of my set back to retail store they'd not give me a refund unless it was maybe Costco

If the customer hasn't returns 5/6 of the product, then I would be filing an FBA returns reimbursement claim.

I tried to go through the prompts for this and it says it's not eligible as "customer damaged items" are not eligible for reimbursement. I submit a case and it was denied.

It's not a damaged item, you have to explain to them that the item wasn't actually fully returned.

As per Amazon return policy, the customer has to return the items they buy. If they don't, then Amazon reimburses you.

You may have to escalate the case, but once you get a competent support rep that can see that the customer didn't actually return the item that was ordered, you should get a reimbursement.

It's not customer damage. You haven't received the product back. They can't say it's damaged if they haven't received it in full back yet.
