Possible new scam on returns
Ok so this has not happened to me on Amazon but on another platform - but it could happen here too so take this as a warning.
Ok so I sent an item to Germany and tracking shows delivered 24 Feb
On 27 Feb customer initiated a return as item did not fit
I am now being told its been delivered and I should issue refund - but I never received item back.
On checking tracking for return I realise the problem - customer has either mistakenly (or on purpose as a new scam) entered into the system, the same tracking number I used when I sent the parcel. As such, when looking it up on RM website it says delivered. But this was the original delivery to Germany on 24 Feb and not back to me which was not even started until 27 Feb so it could not possibly be the return.
So is this
-
a new scam to watch out for
-
a genuine mistake by the customer
-
a bug in the system that only checks delivery status of a tracked item and not whether tracking number is valid (for example by checking that the date of delivery is after date of when return initiated)
Whether or not this can happen on Amazon I have no idea - but I thought I would bring it up in case its a new scam.

A-Z and returns procedures are currently not fit for purpose. Amazon need to rethink this whole area to make it fair to all parties.

International returns policy is to offer local returns address or a prepaid return label.

Yep, we’ve had this from a German customer in the last month as well!!
We’ve also had another scam on the Italian site where the customer opened a return and then sent the return to another address in Italy not too far from the customer’s address and then claimed that we had received it but not issued a refund. The tracking information clearly showed that the parcel had not entered the UK, but needless to say, claim granted and seller metrics affected.

That is one of the many reasons I do not sell outside of the UK.

I have had this done but not on Amazon
Customer did it on eBay. Luckly as you know rang eBay showed them they immediately shut the case down etc.

this issue happened to me exactly like this once also but on another platform as you.
the other platform will easily appeal this in your favour and reverse the decision, but this wouldn’t be possible on amazon as its so much harder getting amazon to hear sellers issues.
you shouldn’t have an issue overturning this on the other platform, have you appealed?
