Unreasonable Amazon FBA Disposal Fees - Need Advice!

Hello everyone, happy new year! Please I need help understanding why Amazon has charged so much for disposal fees for a product weighing just 2.8 lbs. scheduled a disposal order to avoid further storage fees. However, I was charged as much as 85 dollars per unit for disposal in some cases. These charges vary widely, even though all units are the same product. The total charge for disposal reached 1700 dollars for the first statement, which seems unreasonable. Based on the published fee structure for items of this size and weight, the disposal fees should have been much lower.I also noticed discrepancies in the charges: some units were charged five dollars, others ten or fifteen, and some up to eighty-five dollars. I reviewed my billing statements, but they don’t make sense.

I had 400 units of a product, each weighing 2.8 pounds.I sold one unit, liquidated around 28 units, disposed of 328 units, and 44 units remain stranded in inventory. I was prepared to pay up to 400 dollars to settle the issue, including subscription fees, but the total debt of 2000 dollars is beyond what I can afford.I am looking for clarity on these fees and a way to resolve this issue without incurring further charges. pleas has anyone else experienced similar discrepancies with disposal fees? How can I escalate this issue with Amazon?

Hi @Seller_Xp8bUlfsOK9l3,

Happy New Year! I'm sorry to hear about the unexpected disposal fees. Let's see if we can make sense of this.

Based on the FBA disposal order fees help page (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G5FKTA8LXU4TZPD5), disposal fees are calculated per unit based on the product's size tier and shipping weight. For standard-size items over 2 lbs, the fee is $2.89 plus $1.06 for each pound over 2 lbs.

Your product weighs 2.8 lbs. The additional weight over 2 lbs is 0.8 lbs. According to the help page, for items in this size tier, the shipping weight is rounded up to the nearest whole pound. Therefore, we consider it as 1 lb over 2 lbs.

Total Disposal Fee per Unit: $2.89 (base fee) + $1.06 (for the extra pound) = $3.95

The discrepancies you're seeing, with some units being charged significantly more, could indicate an error in how the fees were applied.

To address this issue, I recommend the following steps:

  1. Review the Removal Order Detail Report: This report provides a detailed breakdown of the fees charged for each unit. You can access it here: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/ssof/reports/search.html?recordType=REMOVAL_ORDER_DETAIL
  2. Check the Product's Size Tier: Ensure that your product is correctly classified as a standard-size item. If it's mistakenly categorized as requiring special handling, it could explain the higher fees.
  3. Contact Selling Partner Support: If the fees still don't make sense after reviewing the report, reach out to Selling Partner Support. Provide them with the details from your report and ask for clarification on the fee discrepancies.

I hope this helps clarify the situation and leads to a resolution. Let us know how it goes!

Best regards, Michael
