Automatically changing Production Time IS NOT OK AMAZON!

I got an order this evening. Imagine my surprise when I see that I need to ship it tomorrow.

It is a custom made to order item that takes me 6 days to make.

Found that all of my items had been automatically changed from a production time of 6 to 2.

I didn't make that change.

did you have the 6 days listed on your listing where you edit the listing from your manage inventory? I’ve been carefully checking over some of mine because I’ve heard this is an issue but most I’ve heard of this happening is when the seller doesn’t have their own stated processing time in the actual listing.

This happened to some of our listings too. We were quite shocked to see turnaround times that we've had for years automatically changed to 2 days.

The issue I have is when they just delete the production time all together setting it at zero. Expecting me to make and ship a handmade item less then 24 hours is madness.

This happens when I update a qty from the all inventory page it seems to remove the production time so I never ever change or update the qty from the list….I always go into the listing it’s self to update the qty if something sells out.

It also happens when flipping a listing from fba to fbm it will loose its production time.

Also sometimes just randomly it will also lose it’s production time.

I have not had it where they change my production time (currently 5 days) to a lower number.

This whole change is unfriendly to Handmade sellers and another reason why Amazon is not supportive of Handmade sellers.

I hope a mod reads this and takes action ....

I am looking at numerous orders going "late" today because Amazon is ignoring handling time set at the product level.

For example, orders on 11/8 for products with 3 day handling are now "late" if not shipped by 11/10.

ADDITIONALLY, I am now seeing orders where buyers select USPS Priority Shipping and unless the order ships the same day Amazon will not show an option to purchase Priority Shipping because it would arrive too late - regardless of the handling time.

By the way - our products are made to order. We don't have inventory to just pull products off a shelf - when a fulfillment time is set that's because it takes time to make the product. It's no joke - stop doing this.

Hi @JoeBcrafts, and everyone affecting by this change. We're really sorry to hear about this inconvenience.

This change was not made to all SKUs -- on October 24, 2023, the default handling time for seller-fulfilled orders changed from two-day to one-day for SKUs that are already handled in one day or less. However, you can set two-day handling times for specific SKUs. For more information, go to Manage your handling time.

We understand the majority of Handmade sellers may take a longer time to produce their items. Therefore, you can update your Production/Handling Time at the ASIN level, which will override any change made.

If you are experiencing that this attribute was changed without your permission, please contact Handmade support and create a case including the ASIN affected and share the Case ID with us to investigate deeper why that happened.

This happened to me in October. Apparently I was one of the lucky ones (yeah right) who got to be a part of the early roll out of this terrible new feature that I did not want or ask for.

I turned off the setting for optimized handling times, yet all my expedited orders came in as needing to ship THE SAME DAY! I am a handmade seller too, all my products ship the next day.

I contacted Amazon to find out why my expedited orders were coming in as needing to be shipped the same day. They sent me WORTHLESS automated repsonses back that made no sense. I went into the forums to ask for help--no one there could help either. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with a customer support person who accidentally hung up on me and then NEVER CALLED BACK!!!! I had to call again and speak to a new support person for over an hour!!! Luckily that man was an angel and had me take a ton of screenshots and then escalate my issue behind the scenes

After all of that they found the answer--that Amazon had went into the template for my most popular item and changed the production day from 1 to 0. And this overrode me changing the handling setting to 1 day. But no one at amazon knew that!! It took hours on the phone, unbelievable frustration, driving to UPS every day (I only ship post office normally) so I could send my expedited packages out 2nd day air and LOSE MONEY ON EVERY ORDER!!!! October is my busy time because i sell masks--so Amazon screwed me at the worst possible time--I lost so much money!!!!!

All because Amazon changed the production time on 1 product and didn't know they had done it, and that it would override whatever handling time I entered in my shipping settings.

Does amazon apologize or refund me for the insane shipping I paid?

NOPE of course not. They screwed me so bad. You guys are lucky this is happening a month later, when Amazon now knows some stuff from when they screwed over me and other sellers last month.

The most MADDENING thing was contacting support and getting automated responses a day or 2 later that made no sense and didn't help me at all. I don't know why Amazon insists on doing this--everyone has been complaining that they're responding to people who need help with AI and it's TERRIBLE!!!!!

It frustrates me that Amazon is making those types of decisions for handmade sellers. I haven't sold anything on here for a while, so I've temporarily set all my items to zero quantity. I'm thinking about whether or not I want to remain on the platform.

Same thing happened to me, not happy about it. It took me 2 hours of my precious time to go through all my listings and change them back :(

The fun thing is, the one order that got through and had to ship the next day....that customer requested it be cancelled as soon as I had finished rushing it to be done...THANKS AMAZON!
