This is getting ridiculous...GS1 codes conflicting again
Hi all
I have my own EAN codes purchased via GS1, a couple of months ago,
I had an issue recently, which i posted about, that saw my GS1 codes conflicting with other ASIN’s. In summary, some of my codes had been used by another whilst listing. I chose to write off the specific EANs to avoid the pain of trying to get Amazon to correct everything.
I have just encountered the same issue again, but this time it is even more frustrating
I have tried to create a listing with a number of variations this morning, using another set of EAN’s from my numberbank. They all conflict 99of them) and I receive messages such as:
The value ‘Smart Choice Dog Puppy Strong Rubber Dental Chew Toy (Pink, Tripod)’ specified cannot be used as it conflicts with the value ‘Bm 800 Studio Microphone Kits With Filter V8 Sound Card Condenser Microphone Bundle Record Ktv Karaoke Smartphone Microphone (Color : Red) DDLS (Color : Blue)’ for ASIN Z in the Amazon catalogue. If this is ASIN ‘B08DCZG794’, update the value to match the ASIN data. If this is a different product, update identifying information (UPC/EAN/Part Number/etc).
The ASIN mentioned in the above message -B08DCZG794 - uses my EAN (I have checked). Also, this product has only been available since 21st July 2020. the seller is Chinese
So, a Chinese seller is using my EAN’s to create their listings. Clearly Amazon go no further than checking if the EAN is supplied by GS1. They clearly do not check who the EAN is registered to.
I am loathe to write of another batch of numbers. Tried chatting with Support - waste of time. Waiting for a call back from GS1 to see whether they can assist at all but I am not hopeful as it is not their fault it is Amazons
Any suggestions would be gratefully received

Hi I would first download your certificate from GS1 and a screenshot showing they are your codes and then report the listings to Amazon, then have a little kalmer when thier listing is removed and hey it would be good if it keeps a good BSR when you add your stuff lol
People have said they have foud this happen to them before and they scroll down to pick a higher number and it works, I get it does not fix the issue as you have paid and some one is selling thier what is likely to be cheap tat using your EAN’s what your paying for.

What’s supposed to happen is everytime you create a product with EAN is its supposed to cross check against GS1, somehow the clever Chinese have found a sneaky way around this because you can guarantee if we bang a random EAN in we get error 5461 due to the mis-match

I had an issue, I had been using my GS1 codes which we have owned since early 2000’s and then all of a sudden it would not let us load any items on unless we sent the certificate to Amazon, So i think it would be worth checking with Amazon as you should be able to block listings with incorrect EAN numbers associated to you GS1 number Bank.
Secondly it is worth checking the legal ramifications of this, as the EAN is your signature on any item so if there is any faults or legal actions someone who purchases these goods, they would trace it back to you via you Barcodes.

I would personally try the opposite route. You’ve purchased the codes form GS1, they probably have more direct and relevant contacts with Amazon than you or I.
I would send GS1 a list of the numbers that are already in use with Amazon and ask them to replace yours as they’re not unique or unused. Send them the evidence of the products on Amazon, explain that these are not your products or your brand. Hopefully they will then contact Amazon and report the listings. In the mean time they should replace your duplicate codes with new ones.

I tried to add four products today and two of the barcodes are being used by other products. Not that helpful when I already have barcodes printed on the products and they are ready to ship to FBA.

I really think you need to go back to GS1 and ask them to supply you with, not just another 1,000 barcodes, but a new prefix/company number. The barcode numbers go up in a particular pattern so once somebody has one then they can work out what the next number will be, and the next one.
You shouldn’t HAVE to be doing this but neither should you be having to populate all the numbers that you own already just to hold them, it’s ridiculous!
You need to cut any connection to your existing company prefix and start again.

GS1 says - On Amazon, always make sure you register your branded products on the Amazon brand registry – this gives you control over the listing and will make it easier for you to get incorrectly listed products removed.

Hi all
I thought I would provide a short update, hopefully it may assist in some way for those that may encounter my situation.
I have spoken with GS1 this morning. I explained that I have tested 100 of my 1000 barcodes (every 10th one in sequence) and all conflict with other ASIN’s, both discontinued and live (the Chinese seller)
The was no resistance at all and they are going to provide me with a completely new set of barcodes including a new prefix. They are also going to take the matter up with Amazon directly, as certainly the Chinese seller who has only used my codes since 21st July 2020 should not have been allowed to do so. Clearly Amazon’s process in ensuring GS1 codes are only used by the authorised owner, is failing.
I also questioned GS1 about this. Apparently it wasn’t GS1 who recycled the codes to other companies, but they allowed companies who had previously used their own codes to use them again if their product hadn’t been sold in the last four years
Hopefully i can now get back to listing some new products without the pain that I have experienced in the last few days
