Why does our Lightning and Best Deal price keep decreasing?

According to Amazon’s guidelines:

"The Maximum Deal price that is suggested when creating a deal takes into consideration recent prices as well as the lowest price from a seller offering the product in new condition. The Deal price can fluctuate if any changes are made to the current price, and you cannot raise the price while the deal is running.”

This all makes sense, but we don’t understand what we are facing right now.

We are brand registered and our offer is the only one on Amazon UK, meaning we fully control the price. We started at £15.99 and gradually increased it to £19.99 over a few months. Since we became eligible for Amazon deals, we have actively used them as a key part of our selling strategy.

At first, when our price was £15.99, we were offered to run deals at £12.73, which was a reasonable 20% discount. As we increased our regular price, the deal price stayed the same at £12.73, which was expected based on Amazon’s guidelines. So far, everything was logical.

However, a few weeks ago, the deal price suddenly started dropping: first to £12.19, then to £11.58, and now, an absurd £11.00.

Between deals, we consistently sell at £19.99, so why does the deal price keep decreasing?

The issue seems to be that each time we run a deal at a lower price, it updates the “recent minimum price”. This means we are disallowing the deal price from increasing, which is expected. But it shouldn’t keep dropping lower and lower like this.

As far as I know, deal prices do not contribute to the Average Sales Price (ASP) on Amazon US, but I assume this is not the case on Amazon UK. If UK deals do factor into ASP, then by running deals at £12.73, we are unintentionally lowering our ASP, lowering our future deal price even further. If this keeps going, does that mean we’ll eventually have a negative deal price and have to pay Amazon extra per unit sold? 😂

Has anyone else faced this issue? How does Amazon UK actually calculate deal prices? Would love to hear any insights!

We also have this issue, and may waste my deal activity. It seems doesn't have any methods to fix it. My deal price is $37.99, then it recommended price at $17.49. Crazy!!!

Because it is your money and your inventory. Amazon has an evil strategy for naive sellers. Good luck . Hope you slay the tactics of the candy monster.

@Danny_Amazon Could you please look into this case? We are struggling with this issue and have no idea where to find the answers. The forum is our last resort. Any guidance on why our deal price keeps dropping despite maintaining a higher regular price would be greatly appreciated.

I believe this is due to your ASP being lower each time and because your ASP is lower each time it then discounts 20% off of that ASP

We have this issue too, my deal price is 76.49, then it recommended to 62.49, when I changed my deal price to 62.49, it dropped to 56.59 in one second!

Same here. The next deal price is always 5% lower than the last one.Not sure if this is a glitch or if they're doing it on purpose, because sometimes it happens and sometimes doesn't. The only way to fix it is to not do any deals and wait at least a month until the deal price is acceptable. But you will likely lose your eligibility to do Best Deals

You should be running coupons on them. Amazon is taking into consideration the after coupon price when in comparison with the deal price recently.

Which means that deal price needs to beat after coupon price.

Realistically, you need to raise/maintain your prices, and let them "reset" over at least 30-days, before running another deal.

Amazon's systems are far from perfect, and it'll often pick up things it shouldn't (Coupons/deals/etc) - that'll affect the ASP, and what they require for a minimum discount.

Let the price stay elevated for an extended time, and you should be good.

We also encountered this problem. My product normally retails for 35.99. Using the coupon the price is 27.99.But when setting up the LIMIT TIME DEAL the price needs to be adjusted to $20! This is pretty crazy. It lasted two weeks without running and still caught the low price. We need to know Amazon's exact rules. Please let us know. @Danny_Amazon
