Using Authenticator / OTP for signing in process

In December there was a forum discussing regarding changes to signing in process - Amazon stated that we would all have to use OTP either via mobile phone or Authenticator app.
So far we haven’t had to use either (maybe because all our access points to our Amazon account are, at present, within in the same building and all have been used for years?).
I can see from the December discussion that some folks have have OTP alerts so would be interested to know how you are getting on with this.
Are you getting OTP every time you log in for example and which Authenticator app are you using.
We are successfully using Authy for access to our accounts package but so far have not allocated an app for Amazon.

I would say I am asked to Two Step Verify a few times a day. I can’t say I’ve tested to see how long the time out might be in a session.

I previous was using the text message function - but have switched to using an authenticator.

Previously used Google Authenticator, but have now also installed Authy on destkop.

No real issues - I would say I’m having to do it a few times a day.

Authenticator is much better in areas where the network coverage is poor.

It’s a pain in the neck. So many websites require OTP it seems a little over the top, especially if you are working from home.

Several times a day for PayPal, ebay, amazon, banks etc etc.

I don’t know whether it’s worse for me because I always decline all but essential cookies. Surely those cookies would be classed as essential?

Why we can’t tick to whitelist a certain device/browser any more, beats me. Security for the sake of it.

I don’t feel much has changed other than I am getting the 2 step request all of the time rather than being able to log in without it. I am still being kept logged in for most of the day.

Up until the new year when we changed some details on amazon I was quite happily brute forcing the otp just hit return and it went through without the otp. This has unfortunately finished and is a pita as the authentification comes to the other halfs phone and she is rarely in the same room so have to message here. PQAYPAL ARE JUST AS BAD PROBABLY NEED TO AUTHENTICATE THE SAME PC 10 TIMES A DAY.

+1 Vote for Authy

Available on Desktop / Phones / etc… and syncs between all versions of the app, so if you ever lose one, or don’t have one to hand you can still recover everything

It’s incredibly rare that i get asked for the OTP. In fact i just got prompted for it when i went into my login settings to see if there was a reason i’m rarely asked - before that the last time was the end of September.

I’d say i get logged out of the account and have to sign-in again maybe once every couple of weeks, but don’t have to enter the OTP to get back in.

I can’t say its an issue - but I just accept it as part and parcel of logging into sites like this, and its only likely to increase across other sites I would imagine. You even see it on ecom sites sometimes as well.

At least with amazon I don’t have to worry about secondary users - they all have their own access. ebay has a long way to go in this regard, where they offer secondary users, but those secondary users don’t have access to simply things like customer messaging - a fairly standard requirement for a secondary user I would have said!

I only occasionally have to sign in with OTP. (I do accept cookies) On my phone and tablet, I sign in with Google which uses my fingerprint as confirmation of ID.

(Now anxiously awaiting the gangs of criminals who read these boards to turn up up at my door with heavy duty bolt cutters)

A quick update in case anyone is interested. Installed Authy app on mobile phone today. Very easy to install and fairly simple to link to Amazon. Tested it out and though the OTP was sent as text I clicked to say I hadn’t received it and then got the option to use the authenticator. Worked well. (only thing I did notice was there’s no countdown clock on the mobile app - there is on the desktop)
As an aside - did try to install the Microsoft one. What a nightmare - took half an hour of going round in circles with the App and my Microsoft account before I managed to install the app. Gave up trying to link it. Could be me as not the greatest with technology - went to Authy and that took 5 minutes.
