Prepayment of Italian VAT
In recent years I have had to make a prepayment of Italian VAT at this time of year.
It was then deducted from the first VAT payment due.
Since IOSS has been introduced my VAT payments have dropped to a couple of Euros each month.
Amazon are telling me I need to make a prepayment of over 13,000 euros.
Has anyone else had this and have you made the payment?
Thanks

Am I the only one with this issue? I have written to the Italian VAT people but they have not replied.

Yes, we have had to comply with this as well.
Presumably this will be refunded to us in due course, but for us, it’s another layer of complexity that’s overshadowing the whole PAN EU programme.
In the short term we plan to persevere, but come the end of next year when we need to renew our rolling contract with the accountants, it may be a different outcome.

They are basically calculating it from the previous years or quarters amount. We have received it as well. The biggest problem now is that most sellers on PAN-EU are paying tax on autopilot, with marketplace facilitator tax model… so if you pay, there is no indication on how you can deduct the amount afterwards, as the tax is automatically taken via Amazon… meaning you will have to reclaim, and I have a feeling that VAT Services on Amazon is going to say that they don’t do reclaims, even though they are the responsible party in this case… Absolute disaster for sellers

Has anyone managed to get this prepayment back? I managed to get the Italian Tax office to pay and they said I needed to make a claim through my TAX agent.
I have written to Avalara through Amazon but I keep getting replies saying that they are looking into it.

Amazon have replied and have told me it will cost me 450 euro to get the money back that they told me to pay in error.
Thanks Amazon.
Does anyone know a way around this? Will Italy refund me automatically at the end of the year?
I am also owed a small amount of money by France. Do they refund automatically?
