Why does Amazon allow such incompetence?

Why is it that there are so many errors in the Amazon catalogue that it is a joke, well, it would be a joke if it wasn't so serious, images in green the product is pink, 12 pack of an item when it is only one, so many different issues with incorrect listings and nobody will listen, seller support are powerless, the catalogue team don't talk to seller support and there is nobody else to appeal to, so the only option is to remove the listing or get a customer complaint for incorrect items and the listing remains for the World to see with serious errors.

Sellers could resolve this issue if only someone would listen, if a seller supplies images and 100% proof that a listing is incorrect, then why can it not be changed?

This issue with the catalogue is now at a level where it is making Amazon look completely incompetent and causing huge issues with returns and bad customer service.

When Amazon expect such high standards from sellers, why are there such poor standards in Amazon itself?

All Amazon has to do is allow sellers to update inactive listings and it could take a step forward in turnover, benefitting itself and the seller community. There needs to be checks in place to stop that being abused as some would, but where does the benefit outweigh the cost of developing checks.

When it set up the catalogue rules it didn't future proof them. It neglected to consider the original listing owner may move on, stop selling the item or otherwise leave a listing abandoned. That manufacturers would change packaging, product size/weight/colour etc. That some sellers would create such poor listings with obvious errors that other sellers cannot use them. The reasons many items can now not be listed goes on.

I for one could list ten times the products I currently do just by being able to edit inactive incorrect listings. Multiply that up across the seller community and there must be huge potential for growth for Amazon itself but I also suspect Amazon execs are so far removed from the day to day issues that they don't even realise it is a problem.

Outside of the bubble, Amazon are considered a tech company, it was once.

I think Amazon want only Brand Holders to sell on Amazon, and most of those are in China.

They make far more from those Sellers. If a Seller from China, Amazon sell shipping services from China to a UK warehouse. Then storage fees as all FBA. When sold more fees. It is a return, more fees. Resell as used, even more fees.

Instead, I sell FBM, they get around 7% commission instead. I sell branded items mainly, and all they say is Brand registry, so cannot alter the listing if incorrect. Blaming the Brand owner, who often cannot be bothered to change the listing. Amazon should, but won't take control again of the listings that are wrong. AI input by Amazon makes the listings even worse, as wrong information added at the top of the page.

Amazon must know many items are not known brands, and even more just a brand label on an item, or just a Sellers Brand Registered and a Barcode on the bag it comes in, as it is really a generic item. They do this so no competitors and madly, Amazon back them up!

I know that Safety Certificates are not worth the paper they are written on in many cases, but so few people to check if an item is not ok. Even obvious things are not checked by FBA, like used items sold as new, or items with 2-pin plugs. So, if that is not checked, you know how much lead on a painted item, or if an internal fuse conforms won't be checked as long as Amz have a Certificate, so they can blame the Seller. If the Seller abroad, and an item kills someone, no one to chase easily.

= =

I have one now though, interesting, as the Brand name was altered, so clearly no proof given by the Seller in China, so how did the Brand that was locked change? - I am being asked for proof, but the Chinese Seller just changed without proof??? - Case: 10981686222 @Julia_Amzn - Mods any help?

All Amazon has to to is to let sellers have their own listings as per eBay, it would cut out all the problems with images and all the shenanigans that goes on changing listing titles and adding things that don't apply.

Hi,

If it is any consolation we are a brand owner and the manufacturer of our own products and yet getting the Amazon catalogue attributes updated or corrected in a timely manner, if at all is virtually impossible. You spend hours with useless Seller Support who don't understand the issue and with Brand Registry getting nowhere. It is a costly waste of time. You end up removing inventory, deleting the listing, re-creating it then re-assigning or re-sending inventory just because of one listing attribute that was incorrect on one of your feeds which now is set in stone in the Amazon catalogue...it feels like it would be easier to personally climb Mount Sinai and carve out of stone another Amazon listing ... it is such a colossal waste of our time.

We've taken Amazon issues to Government level in the past with our MP and got a call from Amazon head office and some helpful correspondence for about a week then they went back to their usual ways. It is too big, costly and unmanageable for them to employ real educated people in the UK so they use a lot of automation and overseas outsourcing with a one-size-fits-nobody solution to problems.

We've been selling on Amazon UK for over 15yrs now and are leaning towards more off-Amazon selling as we have more control, higher margins and better customer relations with our customer base.

You can make it work but it is getting more and more difficult. Amazon Ads are a money pit and very difficult to make profitable unless you have a huge mark-up on a product that cannot be copied or under sold etc. You can use off Amazon marketing to drive sales to your Amazon store, but then if you have your own e-commerce website this makes no sense as you may as well drive sales to it instead.

Anyway good luck with your endeavours and don't feel you are going crazy - it is not you!
