Hello @Seller_J45ywmxOr5BYz
Christine here from Amazon Forums.
Let me try to provide a high-level overview, but I would strongly recommend contacting your tax advisor. They will want to look into your specific account details and situation to advise you on the best approach.
For selling on Amazon in the US and Canada, Amazon will automatically collect and remit sales tax/GST on your behalf in the states/provinces where we have sales tax/GST requirements. However, you may still need to file annual income tax returns in each country and potentially register for a business tax ID number.
For the UK and Australia, the process works a bit differently. Amazon does not automatically collect and remit the VAT/GST on your behalf. As a seller, you would be responsible for registering for VAT/GST, charging the appropriate rate to customers, and remitting those taxes to the government on a regular basis. This usually requires getting a VAT/GST registration number.
Without a business tax ID number, you may face challenges setting up your accounts and properly accounting for taxes. I would highly recommend obtaining the necessary registrations and working with an accountant or tax advisor who specializes in cross-border ecommerce.
They can help ensure you are compliant with all relevant tax laws and regulations in each country you are selling into. Feel free to reach back out if you have any other specific questions!
Hope you have a great day!
Christine.
