I do not understand the “Refund outbound shipping” I do not want to refund the outbound shipping

I do not understand the “Refund outbound shipping”

In some cases I do not want to refund the outbound shipping.

If the customer clearly says that they have made an error why should I have to pay for the outbound shipping?

There is a box to refund outbound shipping if you like, but the refund has already been made.

How can I prevent this being automatically done?

I did post this but Dedez gave me a very unsubstantial answer

Thank you

You have to refund any outbound shipping unless the customer has chosen an upgraded service, then you only have to refund the standard amount.

Dedez gave you the correct answer, not an unsubstantial one, I believe it is just the answer you didn’t want to see.

You can ask the question multiple times, it doesn’t change the law, distance selling regulations, consumer rights act or whatever other legislation that is out there, all of which say when a customer returns an order then they are entitled to a full refund, including the outbound postage, unless they specifically upgraded to a faster postage (ie premium,) then you can withold the extra paid for premium (though I find Amazon will often refund that too!)

And thats before you take into account that Amazon usually expect you to do more than the minimum the law states

The answer is still you have to refund the outgoing postage

I can give you the answer you want to hear then - you don’t have to.

Of course, this means you will be breaking the law, and will probably have your account suspended, so its completely up to you, personally I would listen to the advise you were given on both threads, we all have costs we don’t “want” but that is part of running a business and certainly a part of trading on Amazon.

Look at it a different way. If sellers were not required to refund outbound shipping we would all offer our items for a penny plus postage. We would then only have to refund a penny each time a refund was needed. This wouldn’t be fair on the customer.

The whole reason the law requires you to refund the outbound shipping and the item price is to stop customers being taken advantage of.

If you don’t refund the outbound shipping on Amazon you will face an A-Z and possibly account deactivation.
