Brand registry is (mostly) irrelevant for my category, but how can it even be logical/sensible for any seller to create their own brand for goods that already have a brand name ??! - eg. sellers rebranding 'Cadburys' with their own 'made-up' name, or any other well known brand name. I fear Amazon opened up a can of worms when they allowed BR, and all it has done is created endless problems for sellers, with brand ownership issues (as mentioned in your post). I admit I know nothing about the whole process of BR, but going by the number of posts on the forum with sellers encountering problems, it is obviously a nightmare for many.

Brand owners should be able to edit product details without having to log umpteen support tickets.

Echoing what Jilly posted, I think Brand Registry should be separated from BMVD.
Practically no sellers of mainstream books, video or music media are 'brand owners' yet when we attempt to make changes to glaringly obvious catalogue errors we are told we cannot make updates because we are not 'brand owners' .
It then becomes a fight with SS to stop redirecting us to the Brand Registry for simple corrections.
I believe this is one of the main reasons the BMVD catalogue (and the book category in particular) is in such a mess.
It seems that once a title goes out-of-print, the publishers virtually abandon it and certain sellers (and/or Amazon bots?) have the ability to alter images and change other details.
Getting them changed back to what they should be is almost impossible in real terms, due to 'BR' blocking further changes.
There is also the problem of dropshippers adding literally millions of mangled cloned titles with redundant ASINs to existing ASINs. It has become so bad that these cloned ASINs now tend to dominate search results for OOP titles.

Why do seller support lie about sending listing update requests to brand owners when we try to make positive improvements to incorrect/gibberish/completely incorrect product pages?

Why you will not accept our legally registered brand - "Farm Cottage Brands".
No one in SS has given us a straight answer.

Why does Amazon allow some sellers, who are not the brand owners, to make incorrect and misleading PDP changes, but don't allow other sellers to correct them?

If a seller does not manufacture products or have a manufacturer produce a line of goods exclusive to a seller then why does anyone need a 'BRAND'? All this nonsense re: "having a brand name" is purely an ego trip IMO. But if you make or have things made then there's no problem.
As Jilly says
There are 10's of1000's of items throughout the Amazon catalogue that are wrongly branded by so called 'brand owners' not using the bar code system correctly to their own ends, hell some of them no longer exist, but the brand name still hangs around like a bad smell, making legitimately branded good unable to be sold because they've been hijacked.

the brand registry is in such a mess that even if there was a willingness to address the problems it would take years to fix.
A brand should have a single name not multiple variations an example I sell authentic merchandise of various soccer teams according to BR it can be MCFC M.C.F.C. MAN CITY MANCHESTER CITY MANCHESTER CITY FC MAN CITY FC MAN CITY .F.C. ETC for each product BR can claim a different brand name and you get regular violations as different depts demand different names which contradict each other.
I also sell Irish GAA goods Irelands national games which has 32 variations ie teams according to the brand registry one of these is an American equestrian company another is a German heating company another is a American car company a few others are o live and almonds companies.
Even goods that are listed are being removed for no colour attribute no one has permission to add colour ie blue so even more goods get removed
It has gotten so bad that over 90% of my inventory is no longer available on Amazon
