Have you encountered Error 5461 while trying to create a new product listing on Amazon? Don't worry - this common error has a straightforward solution. Let's walk through what this error means and how to resolve it.

What is Error 5461?

This error appears when you attempt to create a new ASIN but don't yet have approval to list products for that specific brand, even if you have a valid GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) from GS1.

How to Resolve Error 5461?

1. Submit a Brand Approval Application

Your first step is to submit a brand approval application through Seller Central. Here's what you'll need:

  • Exact brand name as it appears on the product
  • Product identifier (UPC, EAN, ISBN, or JAN)
  • Clear, high-quality images showing:

-> The product

-> Product packaging

-> Brand name

_> Barcode

2. For Brand Owners

If you own the brand, make sure your Brand Registry account is properly linked to your Seller Central account. This connection helps streamline the approval process.

3. Wait for Approval

After submitting your application:

  • Processing typically takes up to 24 hours
  • Once approved, you can begin creating new listings for the brand
  • Keep checking your Seller Central notifications for updates

💡 Important Tips to Remember:

  • Always check if the product already exists in Amazon's catalog before creating a new ASIN
  • Double-check that your product identifiers match the GS1 database
  • Save your brand approval documentation for future reference

Still Having Issues?

If you've followed these steps and are still experiencing problems:

1. Verify your brand approval status in Seller Central

2. Ensure all product information matches your approval application

3. Contact Selling Partner Support if the error persists

Brand approval
by Seller_Oykh9SHvntK5E
Amazon replied

Hi everyone,

I'm currently having trouble getting my brand approved, and I know it's because my brand name and logo are not printed directly on the packaging box. I can provide one box that fully meets the branding guidelines and I’ll be able to get my brand approved.

My question is: once the brand is approved, would it be acceptable to use branded stickers on the boxes instead of having the logo directly printed on each box?

The issue is that my supplier requires a MOQ of 1000 units to print directly on the boxes, which i dont want to do right now for obvious reasons as a new seller and new product.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Help in getting brand approval
by Seller_3GNNMEe6nRIkn
Amazon replied

Hi Amazon team - I have gotten permission from the brand owner to resell their products in the UK. However, the brand owner is new and do not recall how to provide me with approval to resell their brand.

This is what they said - " We did set up a seller account for Amazon.com and Amazon.ca years ago and completed the brand registry at that time—but I haven’t logged in for a long time and can’t quite remember how to access it now"

Please help as I would like to start selling their products. Thanks

Brand Registry Access Revoked
by Seller_KJbGas2iVPh79
Amazon replied

Dear All

I have a brand registered in brand registry and I was selling my product fine. Normally I would fill in the form to report buyers from brand registry and it was all good. But recently a few got rejected ( I don’t know why) and now my access is revoked. I have tried to appeal and sent many plans of action but I get the same automated response.

Please can someone help.

Thanks

Product recall Jolly Rancher Hard Candy
by Seller_22OoXWKuckv6R

Looking at my account several thousand £ has been given in refunds for products sold up to 18 months ago. When it was released that mineral oil was contained in the ingredients of some Jolly Rancher candy i immediately withdrew the stock units.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, if a product is faulty, you have the right to a full refund within the first 30 days of purchase.

After 30 days:

If the issue is discovered after 30 days, but within the first six months, you are entitled to a repair or replacement, and if that is unsuccessful, a full refund.

Perishable goods:

For perishable goods, the 30-day limit may be shorter and based on how long the item would reasonably be expected to last.

Has anyone else found them in this same position... with perishable items

Hi everyone,

We’re experiencing an issue with our Brand Registry access and would really appreciate some guidance or escalation support.

Our brand has already been successfully registered with Amazon Brand Registry. However, when we log in to https://brandregistry.amazon.com/ using our main account email address , we cannot see our brand listed under the enrolled brands section.

Despite contacting Amazon support multiple times, we haven’t received any clear solution or assistance in ensuring that the brand is properly linked to our main account.

We need to ensure that the Brand Registry is correctly associated with our primary business account, so we can start accessing brand benefits like:

A+ Content

Brand analytics

Sponsored brand ads

Brand protection tools

At this stage, we’re stuck and unable to use the Brand Registry features we’re eligible for.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there a direct contact or workaround to ensure the brand is associated with the correct account?

Any help or guidance would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you,

London Grocery

I have a customer who opened an A-Z claim but then received there order a few hours later. They customer contacted me and asked to close the claim saying that they did not know how to do it. I said I would contact Amazon selling partner (what a joke!) to fix the problem. I contacted Seller Support (who were actually really helpful) and the representative said that they could clearly see that the customer wanted to close the claim and that it was very obvious that the buyer felt that the matter was resolved and that they wanted to close the claim, they said it will be no problem and fully explained to the relevant department that they wanted claim should be closed. Moments later I received a message from the A-Z department saying they are upholding their decision EVEN THOUGH THE CUSTOMER HAS REQUESTED THAT THE CLAIM SHOULD BE CLOSED!!!!!!! As usual this will mean more back and forth between myself and Seller Support, I feel that the only party in this transaction that doesn’t want a fair outcome is my supposed selling partner who are here to help (another joke!) the customer even offered to purchase the product again and for me not to send it but why should they have to do that when it’s crystal clear that they want to close the claim! Here are the messages, I don’t know what is so hard to understand???!!!!

I’ll be totally honest, selling on Amazon is starting to effect my mental health, I feel so depressed and anxious all the time, I find myself waking up at ridiculous times in the night to check that there’s not another ridiculous decision or some stupid new policy (like DD+7, the bane of my existence) I dread contacting Amazon for anything, I can literally feel the stress as soon as I have to do it. I really wish I never started selling on this blasted website! If someone is literally saying that they want to close the claim why does Amazon need to be so awkward. I used to recommend others to sell on here, now I warn them not to ruin their lives on here!!!!

Approval to sell a brand.
by Seller_Dk6KUYxw8t2Ri

Please help.We are a family lighting business. We sell light bulbs that are Energizer or Eveready Branded. We have all the letters from Energizer and the approved UK distributor granting licence to sell Energizer. We have GS1 barcodes but when we try to list with letters and images attached Anazon just keep rejecting. We are getting nowhere on the case logs and really need to speak with a Senior UK Anazon seller support customer service person.Do any sellers gave experience of how they overcame this or a good contact to help us at Amazon. It feels like rather than putting Energizer as the brand we will have to pay hundreds of pounds to get our company name trade marked and use that as the brand as many other sellers are doing. Please please help as our sales are drying up as we are struggling to list any Energizer products on Amazon.

Dear Amazon,

I'm reaching out out of deep frustration and concern. As a new seller on Amazon, I’ve found the onboarding and verification process to be nearly impossible — despite following every step and providing legitimate documentation.

I’ve submitted valid invoices from one of my country’s leading wholesale suppliers. I’ve spoken with Amazon agents multiple times, including through Account Health calls. Unfortunately, the support I’ve received has been unhelpful, unclear, and in some cases even dismissive. Most of the replies I receive are automated rejections with no specific explanation, despite me submitting updated documents and taking all advice given.

This experience has left me stuck. I now have over £10,000 worth of inventory that I cannot sell, and as a small business owner — not a wealthy company — this is a major financial burden. It’s disheartening and confusing when I’ve already built a successful and reputable business on eBay under the name Repair Capital, where I’ve had minimal issues.

I am genuinely trying to do things the right way — legally, professionally, and honestly. All I’m asking for is a fair review by an actual human being and a clear explanation of what’s wrong (if anything) with my submitted documents.

Please escalate this matter to someone who can truly help, or advise me of the exact next steps I need to take to resolve this issue. At the very least, I would appreciate a proper explanation and the opportunity to correct any specific issues, instead of receiving automatic denials with no context.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hoping we can get some help here, we’ve made many cases on SS but the majority are not understanding the situation and we are losing thousands per month which will only increase if this is not sorted soon. We are currently 6 months in regarding the issue without a resolution.

The issue:

Amazon automatically and suddenly after 1 years of selling decided to change the visibility of our Brand and ASINs (not sure how, maybe browse node?), which in turn has made our listing unsearchable for all organic keywords. (not indexed)

We are only currently searchable by Amazon ads / searching our ASIN directly / searching for long tail low volume phrases / searching our brand name. Everything else, we have completely lost rank for.

I have provided evidence of this attached to case ID: 11204681412, for our main high volume keywords our ASIN used to have around 2.5% share of the impressions (we were consistntly top 10 on the first page organically) but 6 months ago this has fallen to 0%. Since then our organic rank has disappeared completely with our ASIN not being able to be found on any of the pages for the same keywords (hence 0% asin impression share).

We can also tell we have lost rank because our sales have gone from 40+ per day to 1-2 (which the ads are contributing to, as these still seem to work)

I have also tried to manually do an upload file to try to change the browse nodes, but this has not worked. The browse nodes were fine for 1+ years and are still correctly asigned in the backend of my listing.

Seller support say the listing is active, the asins in question are not flagged as adult products and the search feature is working as it should before proceeding to send me listing optimisation articles all of which I have read.

I am running out of options, therefore decided to put out this post to see if an Amazon admin or anyone on the forum can help us solve this. We are generating no organic sales, and losing all our rank to competitors which we spent 1.5 years gaining.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
